Should nurses return to wearing uniforms?
It's interesting about caps collecting germs when we wear the same shoes all the time and they are worse than the caps would be. I think some kind of wet spray to disinfect and air dry would work for shoes or caps...not that I want to wear caps...its just a thought. I do like the white and I have been away a bit from bedside and I was excited to wear the white again and feel like a Nurse again. I don't wear all white just a top or the pants, but all white looks clean and professional. Imagine walking into the unit and seeing all the nurses in all white?? We would look awesome and stand out for the patients. If we got dirty---put scrubs on from the hospital not a problem. we do that now anyway. I wonder if this will happen with the Magnet status etc becoming more important.

Nurses wearing white
After being away from the bedside for a few years I was so excited to wear white and be a Nurse again...not all white just top or the pants. I love it.

Thinking about going back after 13 years!!
I think you will definitely need a refresher course to bring you up to speed on changes in the last decade that are huge especially in IV therapy and med administration, wound care etc. I think you would have to just comply with whatever the state where you want your license renewed in tells you to obviously and you would be fine. I wouldn't use your old books except for the basic stuff that doesn't change like A&P and med math, some basic procedures don't change etc. You would probably get books for a refresher course I would think...good luck

Going back to the In-Patient setting...!
Hello...I have 11 years of experience. The last few have been case management. I just went back to bedside and I am orienting. I am loving it, but I haven't been so tired in I don't know how long. I have felt good the past few shifts and I feel so much more confident about all that I know now compared to the last time I was on an acute floor. I think you will just have to give yourself time to adjust to the physical change for a few weeks. It took me 6 shifts until my feet and legs weren't so tired. Yesterday felt great! Some people think I am crazy too...but this is why I became a Nurse. I admire Medsurg Nurses---always have and always will. I am proud to be back.

All nurses hate their job
I think that some people don't know when to move on when they are burned out. If someone hates their job they should look around at all the nursing positions available. I was on med surg x 1 year, home health x 5 years and RN Case manager x 3 years. I am now missing med surg and going back with a fresh renewed passion for nursing. There will always be people bringing down Nursing we need passionate Nurses to balance it out!!

Tips to survive nursing school... I need your help!
Never give up. Live and breathe pathophysiology. Try to understand why things are being done not just doing the task. Believe in yourself Be proud of Nursing and you are acting as a Nurse while you are a student Never say I'm just a student, be proud of what you are doing not everyone can do it and not everyone will make it. Even the smartest test takers don't have the bedside manner, or what it really takes to be a Nurse and they find out down the road and either leave nursing or complain about nursing. You might struggle on tests but when it counts you will know what to do with your patient or where to get someone who does. I think it's like Boot Camp for Nurses.
