  1. I have worked with psych patients for years. I have ONE permanent scar (my fault). There have been many "situations" at my facility. I believe in approach and technique (altough not always). All the employee's at my facility are CPI trained and that helps greatly when working with the mentally ill. Personal space plays a HUGE role. I 100% agree with keeping your self between the door and the patient/resident! We have had employee's get injured, and on occasion, I have to admit, it may have been the staff members fault. Be very aware of your surroundings!
  2. I work in a nursing home that specializes in behaviors, just an FYI there are many of us out here!! Sounds like your lady could possibly have a personality disorder~ and is very much manipulative. Personality d/o are tough. She could very well be managed with behavioral plans, and it could be possible a behaivor unit is the place for her. Are you sure she doesn't have anything acute medically going on? (uti/uri) Those are two biggies that make our residents "cycle" sometimes. Good luck with her!!
  3. I currently work in a long term behavioral unit, that presently allows us to wear scrubs (any color any pattern). I have been there 13 years and as far as I know we have not had a problem with this attire. We recently were bought out by a company who's dress code is white pants with printed tops for nurses and solid color scrubs for STNA's. Our new company has a very good reputation, however the only "psych" they know is their two small geri psych units. (My unit is 57 beds ages 20's - 60's) Im curious if anyone has had any experience with a similar situation or has any comments for me? Most people resist change I know, but I really think my residents are used to our uniforms the way they are. Im new here (this is my first post) so I appologize if I should have made a new thread.
