seasoned nurse needs advice
i know right?? i totally thought the same thing about the cmt from softstorms. lol. idk i am ok with quitting the job, like i dont think i had a choice in the matter anyways...........but for the nut that threw me under the bus..... i am having a hard time with that one.....i just cannot get it out of my head. i think i will call the manager tomarrow and let her know a thing or two about her nursey nurse. if anything maybe it will help her not get that assistant manager position she interviewed for. lol lol....a little sabotage of my own! i am not even an evil person, but seriously. if that chick was in a position with power. OMG. so i am off to a management position myself. in an ecf/acute rehab unit. should be interesting....not to mention it is 2 miles from my house. it will take me about 3 mins to get to work!!!! i am really nervous about the position though....i hope i will like it...i didnt want to do bedside nursing/floor nursing anymore. just er or icu or something totally different!

the pt complaint was because i sat a pt that was on aspiration precautions up in bed. her "friend" stated that i was rough with her....but all i did was hit the hob button up a little bit.....no joke : ) seriously the lady was flat and choking as her pal shoved the food down her throat.....a sitter was there at the bedside and witnessed the whole entire thing. she too had tried to sit the lady up, but to no avail. i explained to the friend what i was going to do.....before i did it. i guess i am just mad at myself for not standing up for myself more.....any thought on me calling hr or the manager back since i have had time to think about it more??? i dont want to work there again but i dont feel that the preceptor should get away with throwing me under the bus like that!

i just want to clear up a few things from the above post. i didnt use the f word, i never said that i did. i was on the phone with him. he was not there at the workplace. i THOUGHT i was alone in the break room did i say anywhere in the post that i used it somewhere else? i used the word bull****. i DID NOT take it out on the employer. can you read?? no it was not the job that i wanted, but i thought i could stick it out for 6 months until i could transfer. this is the problem that i had there, my words being twisted around. my other job i NEVER had any compliants, rarely. so that is what i am so shocked about. i could care less about the job. i had the new one on the way home from the old one. i seriously think that your comment about swearing in the work environment is funny. lol. how many nurses on here can say they have NEVER sworn at work??? like i said before I THOUGHT I WAS ALONE IN THE BREAKROOM ON THE PHONE. my question/comment was regarding anyone ever having been sabotaged like this by a preceptor. the lady was a nut. the first hour i was there she was telling me how her ex husbands family accused her of abandoning her kids.....like i really want to know about that kind of thing.....but she couldnt help me with important things, like which doc is who, or how to get in touch with them....and other really important things that you need to KNOW in order to do the job. nursing care is nursing care....but the paperwork and systems are different everywhere.

so i just started a new job recently. i mean i worked five shifts there. it was not going well at all. i have about 10 years experience in sugical tele, oh step down. i took a job on a med tele floor. which really was like a nursing home icu. NOT what i wanted to do. the preceptor they assigned me to was just not right. idk...a personality disorder or something. she would tell me one thing to do and then another about the same thing. the paper work was out of hand. (who WRITES nursing dx. out anymore??). so to get to the point of this: at the end of my day yesterday i was asked to talk with the manager and someone else....the said they had 2 patient complaints on me in one week and someone else had said that i was using cuss words in the breakroom........ok i will admit to the cuss words. but, i thought i was alone VENTING to my husband and trying to fight back the tears....the thrid day i was there was awful and ms. nursey nurse was NO WHERE to be found to help me, then i caught her talking about me in front of everyone at the nurses station......so basically in this meeting i was asked to quit and i did.....i really dont give a **** about this job/unit it really was bad. they had been on their like 4th manager and had hired about 20 or so new personnel. RED FLAG. but the patient complaint thing i cannot get over. i had another job within the hour. so no biggie there. idk what to do. i really feel like she (preceptor) sabotaged me in some ways. i know that i am a good nurse. has this ever happened to anyone else???

i just know that i did not recieve the "official" verbal warning or 1st written warning from her last year. when all of this started. she said she just got behind. i will appeal it but i do not want my job back there. i was over working there along time ago. i had interviewd and had another job last december.....but about a week later got a letter that said thanks but no thanks.... i found out that someone gave me a HORRIBLE reference. i later found out that another nurse applied for a job and she flat out refused to give her any kind of reference. i have faith that what goes around comes around. karma can really kick your a**. so, i find comfort in that. thanks to all of the positive responses.

um, yes. i did. i did not accompany her with 4 other family member to the hospital. the times i missed with her were when 911 was called. trust me. i did not miss work for just any reason. the problem is because i worked too many years for an incompetent manager. on her evaluation she was deemed to be untrustworthy and uncaring. i am really not interested in any nasty replies. i feel bad enough. i am a nurse with a family to support and no steady job. thanks.

yea i really do not want to go back there. what do i do about the reference? or a job inter view?? also i found this: you believe that you have been the victim of discrimination because of your age, race, sex, disability, national origin or religion. *you believe you were terminated after complaining about harassment or some other form of discrimination. you believe you were terminated in violation of a contract or explicit promise concerning the duration of your employment or the circumstance under which you could be terminated. *you believe your employer is retaliating against you for filing a complaint against your employer for violating local laws (i.e.whistleblowing .) you believe you were terminated for refusing to perform an illegal or unsafe act for your employer. *you believe your employer fired you for taking time off for military service, voting, the illness of a child or your own long-term illness. *you believe your employer violated their company's stated termination policies (for example, you did not receive two written warnings, and your employee handbook specifically states that each terminated employee should receive such.) you believe you were fired for being in involved in organizing a union. *you believe it is going to take many months or years to find comparable employment and thus the economic harm you are going to suffer is significant. *you have sustained serious emotional injuries as a result of how you were treated at work. *you worked for the employer for many years. the employer has offered you some severance benefits but wants you to sign a separation agreement containing a release giving up your legal rights. the ones with the stars apply.

ok i dont really know where to start so i will try to make this short and sweet. i was terminated after nine years on the job on thursday due to "excessive absenteeism". mind you i have not called off work since october of 2007. when all of this started i was pulled into the managers office and given a paper to sign that basically said that if i called in again i was terminated. she just happened to skip the offical protocol and i was never given a verbal or written warning. i signed it and went on about my business. i asked her SEVERAL times for a copy and was never given one. that is just how she is, will tell you what you want to hear and then never give you what you asked for. in january (i had been off for a while due to surgery) i was called into her office again. she and her "asst" basically bereated me and accused me of refusing to discharge a patient, among other things. she used the "f" word several times screaming in my face telling me she wished she could fire me then, and that all of my co-workers hated me. i ended up in the hospital for chest pain and svt that night. i was to work the next day and i used my "personal" (safe) day for that. after that i reported her to our hr department and had written about 14 pages in response to her one. i had had enough of her and a few others bullying ways, constant comments about me personally, heavy assignments, etc. after that i just put it all behind me. went to work my two days and shut my mouth. after a while things seemed to be going ok...... about a month ago she told me she wanted me to do our facilitys program which had to do with extra education and things to get a pay raise, and also to be on the unit leadership committee and pain resource nurse. i really felt that things were looking up and getting better. she also wanted me to take the pccn exam also. when she approached me with this i asked her about the absenteeism issues and if they would hold me back from doing the ladder program (you cannot be in any disiplinary probation to do it). she flat at looked at me and told me NO that that was over with and i was out of that. about two weeks ago i asked her for copies of those dates that i had missed. she said again that I DIDNT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IT. well, this week i got very sick very suddenly. tonsils the size of golf balls, fever of 102. would you go to work? this was wednesday that i called off. on thursday at 3pm i got a call from her and she said sorry to tell you this but i have to terminate you. heres the number to hr if you have any questions. i point blank asked her why she told me i had nothing to worry about and she FLAT OUT DENIED that she had ever told me that i was safe. i dont know what to do now. i have been working on the same unit for 9 years! i am a very good nurse and have never had any issues with my nursing practice at all. she infact told me that i was probably the stongest and brightest nurse she had. and for the record my mother was very sick last year and some of the days i missed were due to taking care of her, or taking her into the hospital. i had asked then if there was anything that i could do to protect my job or get those days excused and she told me no. sorry so long, i just really dont know what to do. i have applied for several jobs and i do work at an agency prn (thank god). but i really feel like she should be reprimanded. should i see an atty or do you think it is a waste?? stabbed : (
