  1. oh i thought i was in the international forum, but where can i find where it was moved to?
  2. hi everyone, im actually asking on behalf on my mom who i would really like to move over here (CA) with me. the situation and id really like your input on this--what to do, alternatives, and whatnot: my mom's been a nurse in TX for over 15yrs and before that she worked in NJ (which is where she got her first RN license coming from Phils). now, she's thinking about moving to CA with me and my family (which would be great!). ive looked at the CA BON website and i understand the steps she needs to take, but i was wondering about their transcript requirement. i dont know how long it would take for my mom's alma mater to send her transcript over to CA BON, but can she get a temporary license before they receive it? how long would the process take? ive got other questions, but i cant remember them now. please help. any input, advice, recommendations would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. salamat po. )
  3. hi everyone, so my situation goes : i got my first travel contract in april this year and had it extended up til the beginning of october when my manager asked if i wanted to take a position with the unit. i really enjoyed the unit so i decided to take her offer. my question now is, my permanent tax home is tx but since ive taken a position, i was wondering where to file my 2011 income tax. go back to texas? or file here in CA since from this month on i'll be employed by a facility here in california? your knowledge and input would greatly be appreciated. i might have other questions too but can't think of 'em at this moment. thanks in advance.
  4. that's great, elizabeth. yes, please do keep us updated. i, too, applied for nursing at the VA. hoping to hear from them soon. good job )
  5. thanks for the info, batmik, are you working with an hca facility right now? could you give me a ballpark figure on the wage or salary for someone with my experience? i was looking at good sam's webpage and in their career center section was an opening for an RN 2 position. is there a huge diff in wage for different levels? we dont really have levels here in tx, at least not in my hosp right now. thanks again, your reply would be appreciated.
  6. hi everyone, just wanted to know direct from you guys working as rns how the job market is for someone with 4 yrs acute care experience. specifically for someone interested in working at an hca facility. im currently with hca here in tx, but parents are in ca and i just want my son closer to them so hence the desire to move. any info is appreciated. thanks.
  7. per diem, the recruiter told me, guarantees you 24hrs of work per month. any extra would be if you're needed.
  8. i just got called for a per diem position for a float pool and was wondering how much the position usually pay? is it a good hospital to work for?
  9. hello everyone, :imbar ok ive got questions i hope anyone of you can answer. my mom's NJ RN license expired in 1996, moved to TX in '94 and have been employed here since. now she'd like to reinstate her NJ license and was wondering the proper steps to do it. we were looking at the NJ website regarding reinstatement of the license and it stated that she had to show proof of competency which said that she had to pass the exam. does she need to retake the NCLEX since it's been over 5 years? AGAIN?! thanks, please get back to us.
  10. thanks, everyone, for your responses. we've pretty much decided to work in new york while living in NJ. im wondering, is it affordable to live in weehawken or secaucus on a nurse's salary with all the commuting? we will be in NJ in mid april to find a place to stay when we make the move. any other cities with recommendations?
  11. hello everyone, just needing some information about working over there. by the time my husband and i move from here in tx (which hopefully will be in october '09!), i'll have 2 years experience--year in telemetry and another in icu--and was wondering how difficult it would be find a job. im still undecided whether to work in nj or commute to work in ny. ive heard of some people doing that but ive also heard of getting double-taxed? any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks, in advance. :nuke: oh and are there special certifications i need to have in order to get the nj rn license? i was looking at new york's BON website and they require a class in child abuse. is there something similar for NJ? thanks again. p.s. is there anyone i can PM? i've got tons of questions
  12. ahhhhh! im really interested in working either at NYP or MSKCC and want to get on the ball already with applying. im making my move in march from here in TX and i dont know when i should start the application process! im still not even sure which hospital is best for me, but ive finally narrowed it down to those 2. maybe any of you out there can help me decide? i can do all the research in the world, but there's nothing better than getting the info here! what is the starting salary for BSN-RN's with a year experience for both hosps? is it hard to get hired? do they conduct interviews? should i start applying now? should i call them and let them know im extremely interested???? what are their benefits? do they provide housing??? or help with housing?? ahh as you can tell, im very excited! please help! any information is greatly greatly appreciated, thanks! :typing:D:up:
  13. :wink2: ive not heard of radiology nurses before but am very interested in them. is it similar to being on the floor? say, telemetry? im going to be relocating to new york in 6 months or so and was looking through the career section of mount sinai and i saw that they had a lot of openings for radiology nurses so i was wondering if any of you could enlighten me about your career. any info, little or lots, would greatly appreciated. thanks much :heartbeat
  14. I've always wanted to be a CRNA since i observed one at work during my surgical rotation when was i was still in the BSN program; however i have since left in the back of my mind after i graduated a year ago. Now ive just completed one year of experience in the telemetry floor and am making my transition to the ICU. i understand that it's a requirement for some schools that offer the CRNA program to have that experience in an acute care setting, but i don't really know what else they will be looking for or how intense their criteria is for acceptance into the program so i have just a few questions and if any of you CRNA's out there would reply, i would be very grateful for any amt of input. 1.) my gpa was not really very good upon completing the BSN program, a 2.6 i think! how big of a part will this have on my application??? 2.) considering that GPA, i will probably have to take the GRE and get a majestic score, right? i went to the bookstore the other day to purchase some books on reviewing the GRE, but i was unsure if i should get the General Test review, or the other specific ones e.g. Verbal, Math, etc....? or will it depend on which im worse at? 3.) should i be accepted (I HOPE!) how much will it be? roughly..ball park figure..altogether?? that's all i have for now, but if there is anything else you can think of adding that would help, please let me know! THanks :D:D
