  1. I agree with Great Dane. I strongly advise you pursue your NP instead of the ADN. I too had the choice ~ 4 years ago between the two. I chose the NP route as a BA Psychology grad (like you) and then went straight into a 3 year program that allowed me to get my RN, MSN and NP at the same time. I took the undergrad and grad nursing courses, sat for the NCLEX and graduated this past June! I passed the national certifying exam and am now practicing as a NP in women's health. I love it. I did work temporarily as an RN at a prestigious hospital for the "experience" after graduation (that was my first and only job as an RN). It is nothing like working as an NP. Totally different!! I encourage you to go for the NP, you can practice as an RN when you finish your degree even if you have the NP licensure! Best of luck. Pinny :wink2:
  2. In my opinion (and that's all it is), the adult NP role is just one aspect of the family NP role. My friends who graduated in adult chose jobs that focused on men and women in certain focused specialties such as cardio in acute care settings or in primary care clinics. On the other hand, my family NP friends chose jobs in pediatrics but were also able to work in primary care with adults if that was their interest. The benefit of family is that it allows you to see the whole gamut- including GYN. As for your interest in women's H, the adult NP grads I knew could work with women and GYN issues although it wasn't their strongest skill or desire....I still recommend family since you want to focus on W's H. P.S. thanks for the words of encouragement!
  3. Hello, In response to your post, yes you should look into the family NP option. I am a women's health nurse practitioner- I just took and passed my certification exam. However, it has been very difficult to find a job. If I were a family NP, I probably already would have a job...however, it may have been with an adult population in a specialty such as cardio or pain OR I would be working in Peds. The good thing about family is that you are very marketable. If your dream is to service women though, a family NP can do that too. Don't limit yourself like I did. Pinny
