Hi, Thanks for responding back to me. I honestly don't want to take the long road but it might have to be that way. I live in the Sacramento area and I thought of doing the LVN. Which schools/rop are there in the Sacramento area? Where are you in your education? The cost of a education is so very much. Also, I have a 4 year old. How long has it takeyou thus far? Would I get a job as a LVN while I continue my education?

I have a BS degree in Business/HR Management and don't like it at all. Been at stay at home mom for the last 4 years and want to get my advanced degree in nursing. I am not from California and after 2 years of searching for a program, I still can't find one that will get me in and out. Most programs are very costly and it takes years (it seems) ot get into a program because they are so impacted. I really liekd Sonoma State DEMSN program but the next cohort starts Jan 2012. I was thinking of going back to Pennsylvania (where I am from) and completing a nursing degree there but my husband has a great job here and I have a 4 year old. I am just so down about this. Anyone else going thru something similiar? Even other health profressions are hard to get into.

Thank you for that very detailed and informative answer about the differences btw. HIT/HIM and informatics. I am not coming with any clinical experience but a lot of business and computer experience. I have applied to one medical informatics program but haven't heard from they yet. My question is how I get into this field without clinical experience since it seems one should have it. I definately do not want to go the HIM route.

Hi. I wanted to know what differences/similarites there are btw. health information managment and medical informatics? I got into a HIM program and waiting to hear about a medical informatics program. I have a BS degree in Business-HR Management and no healthcare work experience. I am just wondering how I would fit into either area and what I can do to strengthen my clinical background. Just wanted to hear your opinions. Thanks a lot!

I am sorry that you had all those shots done again. Thank Goodness that your dd is okay. I should contact the local health dept. like you said b/c they specialize in shots. Thanks for the tip. I must say that I am enjoying her more and more each day. The first 6 months were so hard but after that the days don't seem as hard. I know the doctor who made the mistake yesterday said she would draw titers to see if she needs anymore or not. The doctor is really nice and I do like her but I am still leary about taking her there. I will see how I feel after the weekend as this week has been so very difficult.

Hi Jolie, Nice to hear from you and I found relief in your post though it was awful what happened to your daughter. What adverse effects should I be looking for? She never had problems but it seems as with the 4th dose she seems irritable a bit. I heard and read that the 4th and 5th dose are worse for adverse effects? Why? I am so nervous b/c she had 4 doses and she is only ten months. Should I be? I spoke with the doctor today and she was good to talk with and fully admitted it was her mistake and takes full responsibility and she was so sorry. I don't think she would make the same mistake again. I don't know though if I should go back to her or not. What would ye do? Also, how many shots were repeated on your daughter? If something is too happen when would this be? When can I breathe easier again? Thanks for listening and answering my questions.

Hi Everyone! I don't know if you remember me from last year but I had many problems with my pregnancy and found out I was group strep + and had to have allergy testing. Well, here we are and my baby girl is 10 months on the 5th. This first year has been hell on earth. I have had an extrmemly hard time with her from colic to blood clots to severe croup. It seems as if I haven't had much time to enjoy her but more time to spend thinking about medical issues. I also wanted to say hi and say thanks for giving me all of the support during my last months pf pregnancy. Unfortunately, I will not be able to have anymore children but maybe I can adopt but after having such a challenging daughter, I don't know if I could do it again. WINK WINK. Anyways, I am in a bit of a panic right now. To make a long story short, my daughter was given her 4th dtap today by accident and today has been nothing but phone calls to the doctor, etc. My famiyl doctor feels badly and I am acutally going in to speak with her on Thursday. She got her dtap 4.5 months early and it has only been almost 3 months since her last dtap. In your experience shoudl I be concerned or do anything? I know nothing can be done but I feel so helpless. I called the CDC and they said the CDC won't count this one and I should give her another one btw. 15-18 months and then one after 4 years old but I am only giving 1 more and that is after 4 years old. I didn't want vaccines in the 1st place but husband did so we compromised and put her on a modified schedule. Thanks for listening!

I am really burning my wheels in my mind trying to decide which degree to go for and I was hoping you all could give me your opinion. I know the decision is up to me but I am so overwhelmed but the amount of information I have gotten. The careers I am looking at are a Master's in Health Care Administration and a Master's in Nuring (Family Nurse Practitioner) The MHA degree is from USC and the MSN is from Samuel Merritt. Both are good schools but I am having a hard time deciding. I want to do both but don't know the real pro's and con's of both degrees. I feel the MSN is more secure b/c if mgt. positions were eliminated then you could always fall back on being a nurse. I would like to get into management someday if I were a nurse pracitioner. I just don't know which degree. Anyone go thru making a decision like this? I am wondering what the difference is btw. nurse managing and adminstration. I also have a baby girl who I would love to see grow up and the NP route will be more flexible but then I hear the NP field is saturated. I am a very confused person b/c I don't know what to separate fact from fiction. THX, Jenn

I understand the generic program. I guess I am trying to figure out f the generic program is a waste of 3 years of schooling if I have to go back for a specialty? So, I am guessing the only thing I can do with the generic MSN is be a floor nurse and gain experience and then pick an area and get certificates, etc? Or go for a Ph.D after I complete the MSN? I am just trying to get a clear picture of my career path as I am interested in several areas. Thanks, Jennifer

Well, I want to know if I went for the generic MSN program what my options wuld be after I gradaute and would it be better to go for an advanced speciality? With FNP, you really can only be in family practice, right? With a generic MSN you can build on areas you enjoy whereas FNP you can't?

Is the FNP degree getting/already is over saturated? If one gradautes from an FNP program and can't find a job as a NP, what other jobs can one do? What is the advantage/disadvantage of a generic MSN program? Thanks.

There is a generic MSN program near me and I was thinking of applying to it. I always thought MSN program's had a specilaty. What can you do with a generic MSN degree? Is it worth going for this degree since probably you would be hired as a floor nurse?

I would pick Radiation Therapy for my interest in technology and the pay is good.

what healthcare career would you choose and why?

There seems to be so many options for non-nurses with a BS/BS degree. I am wondering and would love to hear what option you went for and why? There are accelerated BSN program's and they are 12-16 months and ELMSN programs that are 2-3 years. I know it depends on goals and so forth but am wondering if you wanted to pursue a Ph.D would it be better to get the accel. BSN degree and then go right into a Ph.D program instead of the master's.

I was thinking of applying to Samuel Merritt for the ELMSN in Case Mgt but I have many concerns. I have been told numerous times that I would be a floor nurse before getting into CM b/c you need clinical experience to get into CM. I would like to do CM if I didn't get into research. What did they tell you about jobs after you gradaute? I am suppose to go to an open house in March. Are the classes during the day? I also thought of the ABSN but didn't want to backtrack to a bachelor's. Thanks. Jennifer

Thanks LLG for the advice. You are 100 percent right. I am interested in researching about the dangers of drugs. I was a victim of medical malpractice and want to learn about drugs and then educate health professionals about the dangers of drugs, appropiate doseages to give and really look at if a person needs the drug or not. That is my interest in a nutshell. Again, thanks for the advice. I have been really thinking of which way I can go but I get confused of where to start.

I also like Case Management too. What does CM look like for jobs/opportunities?

I actually want to do research only. I don't want to work with the public. I thought of the MSN but I really don't know much about the difference of degrees and so forth. If I got a MSN, I am sure that I would have to work with the public. Don't get me wrong, I like people but I enjoy research. What type of MSN should I look into? Thanks.

I had my baby on Oct. 5th and it was an extrememly difficult labor. I ended up having a c-section and had 2 epidurals. I had one for contractions and then had a full block spinal. I think I did. I was quite confused. Anyways, I am expereincing ringing in my ears. I always had white noise sounds but now they seem amplified. Does this go away? I rememeber the Anesthesiologist saying something about tinnitus but can't remember since I was pretty out of it. Also, I am having major twiching in my hands and body. I am sure this is related.
