CNA to LPN?
I am doing this very thing right now! Well, starting too, anyway. Career change, just completing my training as a CNA, and starting LPN school in July. I will be working part time - probably 3 shifts a week, and school full time. I know it will be tiring - BUT - where there is a will.......

About to become "a nurse!"
I'm very excited to have found this thread! I was just speaking to an RN I work with today about this very subject. I am just completing my CNA course, starting LPN school in July - and plan to go on for my RN at a later date. I can't count the number of people who have asked why I'm not going straight for the RN - reason being, actually, that this is a faster, more feasible course for the immediate future to be able to be a nurse, which is a huge career change for me anyway! I try to take most comments as positive encouragement, but they often come across as somewhat derogatory.... I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way!

I'm the only minority in my program!Any Puerto Ricans out there?
I moved to Western PA about 3 years ago - and have been feeling the lack of diversity ever since! While I am Caucasian, I grew up in Africa and have since lived in the DC area, and have an interracial family - I'm so not used to being around whites exclusively!!! I can hear you on the challenges you must feel!!! We had Orientation for my LPN class this week - all "white" save one! It felt strange to me!

I started LPN school today!
I just discovered this thread - and am so excited to learn all about the progression of things in the program! Having spoken with Marci briefly before, I know we are going through the same program, only I haven't yet started (starting in July), and I will be going full time. I have also recently started in a Nurse Aide training program at a LTC facility where the student nurses from this program do some of their clinicals. Marci - I wonder if you are ever there at the same time I am! I go to Orientation on Monday, so I will soon have an idea of the other people in my class. Marci - thanks for starting this thread!

Wages around the country?
Western Pa seems a little lower, as far as I know so far... seems like most nursing homes pay $7-8 while you are training, after you become "certified" it's around $8.5-9.5, plus shift differential which often seems to be 50 cents to a dollar. Of course, cost of living is supposed to be lower here - but these gas prices!!!!

LPN Pay rates in Western PA?
Thank you! The $15/hour seems more online with what I had been thinking (I am just getting ready to start LPN school in July), but that ad had me a little concerned! I do understand the difference in pay between doctor's offices and LTC - I am currently getting certified as a nurse aide to be able to work and gain some experience while in school. I don't know anyone at the LTC facility where I just started to ask them yet! Thanks again!

LPN Pay rates in Western PA?
I saw an ad in the Help Wanted section on a local newspaper for an LPN - stating that the starting wage was $12/hour!!!!! Is that common in the Western PA area? I think I remember that the ad was for a position in Hermitage, PA.... It seems so low!

Nose Piercing question...advice needed
I love nose piercings! I have my nose pierced, but take it out while in school or at work - of course, I have had mine pierced for about 20 years, so I can leave the ring out for weeks and it doesn't close up. However, I was very surprised that at the LTC I just started out there are several women with nose rings in!

Mercer County Career Center?
Thank you for answering me! I actually did just "sign up" and wil be starting the FT program in July! I am excited and nervous - it is a career change for me. I guess I was just wondering what other students' impressions of the program might be. When did you start? When do you graduate? Are you working as well as going to school? Thanks!

Mercer County Career Center?
Has anyone attended the Mercer County Career Center's LPN program? If so - how did they find it? Thanks!
