I missed a week in a job while still on probation. My father is ill and I am his primary caretaker. My supervisor was on vacation and I called in every day. The last day I called in my supervisor was on vacation. His supervisor, HIS MOTHER then called me to find out why I did not call. I told her I had left a message for him, (which I had done everyday that I was out). She told me that he was on vacation. She then told me to let her know when I would be back to work and gave me her cell. I called her the next morning told her my dad was out of the hospital and she told me I would not be coming back to the clinic I was in because the dr. was upset by the time of my absence. She told me she would be placing me in another clinic. I have heard nothing since, she will not return my calls. I don't know what to do. I am so stressed. I also have a disabled husband who is pressuring me about the money I am not making. I have had to quit 2 jobs because of my dad, but he was doing well for awhile and I need to work. Anyone have any advise?

I have been offered a job at a Prison in Texas. The medical management is the University of Texas Medical System. One reason I applied for the job is to move to the same town as my parents. My mother has breast cancer and I really wanted to be near her. There is a small hospital in the town that they live in but the pay and benefits are not nearly comparable as the prison position. I have several family members that work in the prison system in different capacities ( teacher, psychologist, corrections officer) and have been there for more than 15 years. The pay is much better than what I am making now in a hospital and the benefits are better. Does anyone have any experience in the UTMB system? Any advise to offer??? Or just advise on going into prison nursing???? I would appreciate any input.
