Behaviorist role in nursing? Protocols not by a physician questions...
Good Afternoon everyone. I currently just started work in a day program with adults for developmental disabilites. Their current practice is that their behaviorist on site (Not an MD/PA/NP) makes protocols and addendums to doctors orders. For example, I have an order for Ativan PRN for Agitation and the behaviorist will come up with the criteria for administration. His protocol would then say Agitation is defined as 2 assualts and Ativan is to be given after this and if de-esclating plans did not work. Can I just give it when I feel the client is agitated by my nursing judgement? Do i keep the addendum and just do what I want? Do I follow the behaviorist's plan? Is the the behavior protocol even legal against doctor's orders? Thanks!

Help! GPA problem - Starting off higher or lower? RN-MSN Likelyhood
Thanks for the reply HeartsOpenWide. I should have clarified, I am already accepted into both community college adn programs starting in September. All of my pre-reqs are done now and are A's and B's (1 B-). I took my pre-reqs at the two colleges that I was accepted to. I'm not worried about my undergrad GPA because I plan to really have a great one in an ADN program. My problem is that the pre-reqs are not factored towards my GPA unless they were taken at the school I am attending. For example my A's that I have at Community College A simply transfer to Community College B as transfer credit. Not an actual grade or GPA. I'm stuck because I feel I'm starting off at a disadvantage because all but 1 course (the one I got the b- in) were taken elsewhere and because of that I start out the program with a 2.7 I was not sure if there is anyway to get around this.

Help! GPA problem - Starting off higher or lower? RN-MSN Likelyhood
Hey Everyone! Really stuck so hopefully someone will be able to answer my question... So here's my story, graduated with a bachelors degree in 09 (low gpa 2.7 - had a rough start) so I'm going to go to a community college program just so I can become a registered nurse. So I took my science prerequisites this past year at two community college. At community college A - I have a 3.7 gpa (where I took all but 1 of my pre-reqs). At community college B - I have a 2.7 gpa (took 1 pre-req B-) Now community college B is a much more reputable, resourceful, and an overall better program than community college A. It is also closer to me and fits my schedule better. My pre-reqs that I got A's and B's in simply come up as TF(transfer credits-not factored into my gpa). My goal is to go an RN-MSN NP program. I'm aware of the direct entry programs but I just finished my pre-reqs and don't want to wait a whole year just to apply when I can have a year of RN school underway. How likely is that with a low gpa? I figured community college A starts me off at a much better position. Where should I go? is there anywhere around this GPA gap problem? Help allnurses please! Thank you for help in advance! -listentofindout

Thank you all very much for your replies ! Ella will definitely be contacting Marymount tomorrow and figure everything out. Although the TEAS test might not work to my advantage, I'm hoping the drop in applicants will!

Looking to go to school in Virginia - Already have a weak GPA B.S. -Need help!!!
Hello! Graduating up in Boston in two weeks with a BS in philosophy and minor in radiation therapy. The radiation therapy program was the only medical program at my school and figured it would be relevant to my nursing career and classes. I was mistaken. Will be graduating with about a 2.6/7 gpa. By no means am i happy with this but my school is too expensive to take any extra classes to bring it up. I have volunteering/hospital experience. Really looking to moving to Virginia to go to nursing school. The University of Virginia transfer program seemed really good but then read that if you already hold a degree you can't go that route. . Have sufficient grades in Biology,Chemistry, Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, and taking A&P over again in the summer (Got a c, and for the lab a c-). What do you suggest I do allnurses? So for I'm set on a goal moving to Virginia/Dc area and plan on retaking and finishing up my prereqs to beef up my application. Don't want to be in school for another four years going to ASN to RN-BSN route. Any specific programs you would recommed for my situation? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

HELP! Boston! Acellerated BSN? LPN to BSN? Nursing school questions...
Hey everybody, 21 year old male here from Boston nice to meet you all ! Will be graduating in May 2009 with a degree from Suffolk University in Philosophy and a minor in radiation biology. My GPA is a 2.8 which I'm not happy with, but I just didn't take school as serious as I did now. Recently just got a job as a patient transporter in a hospital just outside of Boston. I have been very interested in nursing before but kind of further cemented that idea working at the hospital because after I transport the patient, I just want to take care of them and do more than I'm qualified and know. My question is what should I do further to become a nurse. I know there is a program in Chelsea that allows you to become a LPN at no charge as long as you work in their hospital for a year. Then how would I go about becoming a RN? I'm most considering accelerated BSN programs though. Because my GPA is low I'm pretty discouraged about applying though. I'm also taking A&P right now, which is a pretty big pre-req and MGH health professions for ex the deadline is November 1st( although I don't know if I apply this year or next November, figuring how I'll will be graduating in May - The program starts in Summer.) Would also have some really good recommendations though, from people I've helped , Bosses, Professors. I absolutely want to do this and feel like I have so much to give. Are there any other programs/ schools that I should really look into? What should i put in my essay regarding the lower GPA? Any advice on any of this will be very helpful and extremely appreciated. Posted in General nursing before, didn't realize there was a nursing student forum. Thank You!

Thank you! Did you get your associates in nursing at bunker hill? where did you take that? I have most of my pre-reqs done, except A&P but, Maybe I'll retake some of these classes i didn't do so well in at community college. ie(statisitics=C+, Bio=C, Chem=C, all taken freshman year).

HELP! BOSTON! BS to BSN? LPN? Nursing in general...Advice needed
thank you so much ! i definitely want to go for the accelerated BSN, just didn't know how competitive they are and if I will get accepted. I was looking into the LPN as a second option, but maybe even if it takes me a little longer to take some classes to get my GPA up it'll be better.
