Back when i went to nursing school (1975-1979) learning differences were "your problem" (actually they weren't even acknowledged). Like I said before, no tape recorders were allowed, there were no power point lectures and very few teachers gave handouts so you had to read the books. If the teachers have it all on line or in handouts thats wonderful. I remember a Micro teacher who wrote the worst outlines I've ever seen. I got an A in his class but God knows how. Pretty soon you'll find your own rhythm. Is there anyone else in your class that has learning differences? Work together and learn from them. Use every resource that is available to you and be thankful the resources are there.

Anyone collect vintage nursing school pins? I have 2 "mystery pins" and one I'm thinking about buying. One is an Art Deco golt diamond with blue enamel with the initials jBh. The second one is a gold styalizedmaltese like cross ontop of a larger maltese cross with the letters jHc written in gold on black enamel in the center of the smaller cross. This pin is from 1933 and the other is from 1949. The pin I'm thinking of buying is a shield with black enamel on gold with the letters SJH at the top of the shield and a red cross below it. The gold shield is surrounded by seed pearls (seed pearls were popular on pins in the '30s) If any of these pins sound familiar to you PLEASE let me know. Thanks

I think all of the listed info is great. I have ADHD and went through nursing school without meds or any specific help from any dept. How much studying a night do you do? I had to make myself study (read the chapters, look over my notes) I would last about 1-1/2 hours then literally run up and down the halls in the dorm. Sit back down and make yourself study again. It would take me 5 hours to do 3 hours of effective studying. I got A's on my clinicals B's on tests and C's on papers. The school had a ban on tape recorders when I was in school as many of the teachers thought that you taping them was an interfierence in their copywrited material (?) Any way READ THE BOOKS and MAKE YOURSELF STUDY. It takes a lot of self discipline but if you want to be able to definitely be able to support yourself you have to do this. Make yourself lots of notes and stick to a schedule. The people at the disabilities center can help you with ideas. Use any free tutoring you can get your hands on. Do you have any friends that are a semester ahead of you? Talk to them. You can do it! I did.

I've bought my last 2 pins from Ruby lane. They have some great pins but only a few. I think I'll try to get in touch with RN magazine and see if they still have a copy of that calendar or if it's in book or brochure form. DOES ANYONE OUT THERE HAS A COPY OF THE 1997 RN CALENDAR TO SPARE????? . I have a friend at work who is a garage/estate sale devotee and she's going to be on the lookout for pins for me. The guy at Ruby Lane is researching an Art Deco pin that I bought from him. Maybe between the two of us we can find where it comes from. Thanks for the tips, I can take all I can get.

My pin is about the size of a quarter and is gold. We could get them in silver or copper but I thought gold would last longer. It has the school name in latin, a map of the state and a hand carrying a torch engraved on it, as well as the year the school was founded. It isn't the most exciting pin in the world but it isn't ugly either. Like the others I worked my butt off for it and it's MINE. :DI graduated 30 years ago next week (yes I'm chronologically gifted)and I have very fond memories of school:redpinkhe (with the exception of one professor, but then there is always one) I work in an office and wear business attire now and I keep my pin in a safe place. I have recently started collecting pins from hospital nursing schools. One of the entries talked about RN magazine and their pictures of pins. Does anyone know if they've put something out with all of the pictures in it? Or if there is a book somewhere with pictures of various pins and info? I'd just like to have some basis for my collection.
