no jobs
hi everyone, i am a soon to be new grad bsn-rn from the boston area. currently there are NO new grad nursing jobs in the state- it has been very discouraging. i have been told to relocate to another area of the country, but most places that I have looked into seem to be having very similiar problems. can anyone suggest an area of the country that is currently hiring new grads? i would like to remain as close to MA as possible for family reasons, but I am willing to do anything at this point. Any helpful suggestions!

new to OR
hi everyone, so i am entering my last semester of nursing school and have just been assigned to my preceptorship. I am doing it in a community hospital outside of Boston in the PACU/OR. Does anyone have any advise about starting, interesting articles to read up, or even some help with some OR basics. I have read the so your observing and the OR thread and it was helpful. I have never worked in the OR environment before so it is definately going to be a change, but I think I am ready for the challenge. Does anyone think this experience would help me in getting a job? Also, I thought it was interesting how I have been be assigned to the two seperate areas. Would it be common to try and train new nurses to cross train in the PACU/OR. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank youu!

pacu preceptor
Thank you for your advice, thats was helpful! Could you give me an idea about on average and i am sure it depends on the facility but the number of patients a nurse may have at one time? I assume that PACU nurses take call as well? Do you think this is a good experience for someone in their last semester (esp getting comfortable with giving more complex meds etc). Any more info would be great. Thank you!

what to doo
hi everyone, i recently recieved my preceptor request for my last semester of nursing school. we have been given a list of a bunch of very different units. there is a hiring freeze in my area, especially for new grads, so i feel like it would be in my best interest to start out inb med surg. can anyone recommend a quieter less chaotic area of meg-surg? i tend to be very organized and do not like the high stress and disorganization of a regular floor. i have been on a general med/surg floor and an ortho floor and really did not like either of them. i now have the choice of renal, neuro, cardia, oncology,gu/gi, trauma, and transplant. i was thinking maybe transplant, how does that measure up to a gen. med surg? thank you for the help!
