  1. Not having meal breaks is just wrong. It's contributing to the nursing shortage. If there are not enough staff for everyone to have a meal break, then the place is understaffed. Simple as that. Why are you allowing your supervisors to earn big salaries and take their meals? They should be paid a little less, and more nurses hired. It does not show "character" to burn yourself out, and that is exactly what WILL happen when you do not take care of your body.
  2. Two of the major hospitals here in the Sacramento area are paying big bucks in class action lawsuits for not letting nurses take their meal breaks. It is against the law to do that. If anyone is interested, I can try to find some links, or you could try Googling "Catholic Healthcare West" or "Sutter Hospital" and add "meal" and "lawsuit" and see if that works.
