Hey, I'm looking for a nurse tech job and wondered if nurses in the area could help me out. I am trying to find out which hospitals offer nurse tech jobs and what they are called (it seems that they are not called nurse techs at all hospitals). I figure this info will help me to search for jobs. Thanks!

Hey guys :) Can you please, please, please post every single detail from orientation for all of us Winter folks. I'm curious (nosy is more like it), but also anxious. Tell us absolutely everything you can think of, pretty please. I especially want to know about scrubs and shoes so I can go ahead and get mine before Christmas. I'd like to know your schedule, even though mine will be different, and how they chose it. I'm super nervous about the whole daycare issue. I'm guessing winter orientation will be during Christmas break, and I'm hoping daycares will be open so I can sign the boys up. I could go on and on about all of the info I want to know, but it would be so wonderful if some of you can tell us what you learn at orientation. Thanks!

I was wondering that too, but then after I thought about it, I'm guessing no. Full-time spring students have summer off, so I assume that we'll have summers off too. One of us needs to call and ask probably LOL

Well, I would like to get off the roller coaster this week LOL Obviously I want it to be because I'm getting in, but at this point I almost don't even care if I get a rejection letter. I'm just getting sick of the ride.

well, i called this afternoon because they never answered my e-mail lol she said that they will send out the winter letters after they finish filling the fall spots. she said they are still filling the fall spots, which i assume she is referring to the fact that they are waiting for all of the responses in case someone is not going to accept their spot. so i asked if they thought they would send out the e-mails this week and she said yes, they hope so. she said they are working hard to get all of the fall spots filled (which doesn't really make sense to me) and they are going to do their best to get the winter letters out this week. although she sounded hopeful, i'm afraid that we might not see winter letters until next week hth -andrea

I hate to bug the nursing department because there are probably 100 nursing students breathing down their necks right about now, but I just can't take it anymore and had to ask. I decided to go ahead and send an e-mail first, to give them an opportunity to answer at their convenience, but if they don't respond quickly I will have to call. LOL Anyway, I asked when they are sending out the winter acceptance letters. I'll let you know if/when I hear anything...

I've come up with 3 scenarios: 1) They only had time to send out e-mails to the 4.0 students and I could still get into the fall quarter (this seems the least likely because I would think they are going to send out all 24 acceptance letters at the same time). 2) They only had time to send out e-mails to the fall students and I could still get into the winter quarter (I hope I got into fall, but I'll be happy to get into winter too). 3) They only had time to send out the 48 acceptance letters (fall and winter) and I'm just waiting for my rejection letter. The worst part about it is that I'm afraid they are not sending out any e-mails today since the campus is closed on Fridays, so I might not find out anything until next week! I literally cried myself to sleep last night, trying not to wake up my husband, and I was only able to sleep a few hours after that. Then I woke up at the crack of dawn stressing out again. I wish they would hurry up and tell us all one way or the other because the anxiety is really starting to kill me (I'm sure I'm not the only one).

Sorry for being a pain, but can you see what time they actually sent the e-mail? I mean, did they send it earlier today and you just checked/received it at 10:30pm? How am I going to sleep?

No e-mail for me yet Maybe I didn't get in I hope I get in to Winter though!....I can't believe you got the e-mail tonight... I wonder if they are sending out more tomorrow or if they are sending out the rest next week....now I'm even more nervous than before! LOL

I don't think your information is correct about the lowest GPA being a 3.6 last year It is my understanding that the lowest GPA that got into the full-time nursing program last fall was a 3.944! They did take some lower GPA's into the Bates program, but I don't think that TCC is working with Bates anymore (at least not this coming quarter). So I am very nervous because my GPA is 3.91 and I don't think I'm going to make it into fall The fact that they are using July applications for Winter quarter gives me hope though, because I wouldn't mind getting in Winter. I'm pretty sure the lowest GPA that got into the full time program this last spring was a 3.84. It seems like maybe less people apply during spring because the year before last had a lower GPA for spring also. They also accept people into the part-time nursing program in spring though, so they take an even lower GPA for that. I don't remember what it was last year, but I'm thinking it might have been as low as 3.6 for that. I have no idea if TCC will be participating with Bates again in the spring or not. You have to take this all with a grain of salt because I could be wrong. I had several sources though, so I'm pretty sure it's close to accurate. I have a stress headache waiting for our results LOL I will be seriously surprised if we find anything out tomorrow, since the campus is closed on Fridays. We'll be lucky if we find out before Wednesday is my guess All I know is that they better sent out the e-mails by Thursday because I am NOT going to wait another weekend. I'll drive down there and kick some butt if I have to (OK, not really, but I will want to).

Wow, I think they are trying to kill us. I don't know if I can survive the anxiety! LOL I can't believe it takes them over a month to calculate GPA's anyway. Give me a break! Well, I guess I'll try to calm down for at least the rest of this week since they aren't going to send out the e-mails like they promised. I can't make any promises come Monday morning though. I'll probably be all stressed out again! :chuckle

I was really hoping we would find out today. I was pretty calm over the weekend because I knew we wouldn't find out before today. But now that the time is here, I can't help but be anxious waiting for the results. Send the e-mails already! LOL

Wow! Thank you so much, that is very helpful :) It does give me a better idea what kind of daycare situation I'm going to need. I'd love to hear from more people too since the schedule is always different You guys don't even know how much you've helped me so far.

Thanks ladies! You have been very helpful so far! I just don't understand why they couldn't tell us this info up front. I do understand that the schedule changes and that we can't know our schedule until right before the quarter starts. I just needed an idea so I can find childcare, you know? So first quarter looks like around 15 hours a week for class/clinicals. Does that sound about right? Can you give me an idea of hours for clinicals after first quarter? I thought I read somewhere that they are mostly 7-3 or 3-11. Does that sound accurate or are there many more choices than that? And how many days a week are clinicals after first quarter? I thought they said at the nursing info session something about classes usually being 2 days a week (like M-T) and clinicals being the other 2 or 3 days, but I can't remember. One more question specifically about clinicals...besides first quarter, when do clinicals start? I mean, do you usually have a few weeks of classes in the beginning of every quarter and then the last weeks of the quarter are clinicals? I also have a daycare question related to clinicals. I'm thinking about using TCC's daycare which is a minimum of 5 hours per day 5 days a week. Will I need that much? So far that full-time price at TCC is cheaper than even the part-time price of daycares in my area. But another question I have is in regards to hours. I think the daycare hours are from 7-5:30 which will pose a problem probably. If the clinicals really are from 7-3 and/or from 3-11, I won't be able to use the TCC daycare. Another question, do you ever have clinicals the same day as classes (like class Monday morning and then clinicals Monday afternoon)? I'm sorry, I know these are probably hard questions to answer because the schedule is always different. But you've been so helpful giving me an idea of what to expect so far, I thought I'd go ahead and ask. Based on the schedule you've told me so far, and on the fact that I might be able to get night clinicals, I might be able to get away with part-time childcare and I need to know if that's an option. How many days a week, usually, will I need childcare? And approximately how many hours a week, both first quarter and also subsequent quarters? THANKS!

Yes, I agree. TCC is acting like their nursing program is some secret club and will not answer any of my questions. I understand that they cannot give me an exact schedule, but a little idea would be nice. I'm trying to line up daycare for my 4 children and it's not something that can wait until last minute! I'm trying to research facilities and prices right now, and I want to get spots reserved as soon as I figure things out because it's going to be hard to find room if I wait until August. BTW, I'm getting a 4.0 in my prereq's and I'm almost done so it's not like I'm just a slacker trying to get info from them. I'm a serious student who is likely going to make it into the program my first try. Why can't they just answer my questions! LOL So please, please, please, anyone who is in the nursing program already or those of you going to orientation on Friday, give me an idea! I did read this thread and there was some helpful info already. But I want to see if it's still the same. I understand that the schedule can and probably will change for fall. I just need to get an idea. I'm mainly confused about the clinicals because I have no idea how that stuff works. I can see the class schedule online and it looks like classes are 3 days a week. That's good to know. But how do the clinicals work? Any and all information would be so greatly appreciated! During one of the info sessions, the lady said it is possible to request evening/night clinicals but they don't have very many spots available and there is no guarantee. I'm really nervous because I have no idea how we're going to afford any daycare, let alone full-time. I'm currently a SAHM with 4 kids: a baby, toddler, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. I'd love to get my nursing classes during the time my older 2 are in school so that I only have to pay daycare for the younger 2. And then try to request evening/night clinicals so I can leave the kids with my husband. Otherwise, might have to try and get a job AND go to nursing school just to be able to pay for daycare! Also, do you know where the clinicals are (like do you have a list, cause I know there are many sites)? Just curious if they are all in Tacoma or if there are any that are closer to me. I live up in the Kent area and drive down to Tacoma because I heard TCC has such a great nursing program. I'm sure I have a million more questions, but I'll save them for now Thanks!!!
