LPN mistreated in dialysis
Thanks. Believe it or not I'm more sad than sour because as hard as it was to learn the ropes, I liked dialysis. Where I am, FMC owns almost every clinic and those not owned by them wont train. How can I learn now without going back?! I wonder if a hospital will train me in acute when I finish RN school. Do they require you to have experience in chronic or ICU first?

LPN mistreated in dialysis
I started at FMC in December and I'm already done! First of all the pay sucks. I took a rediculous pay cut($4) because I wanted to learn dialysis and I felt that after I finished RN school the experienced would pay off. (wanted to learn a specialty so I could travel) From day 1 the techs treated me like s*#t and would not show me or let me do a damn thing. I got the feeling that the RNs probably didnt want to work wiyh me because they are required to sign off behind me on anything I would do. FMC policy says I cant do foot checks but I can take off the socks and shoes for the RN. (how degrading is that) When I interviewed I told clinic manager that I needed certain days off because of school and she agreed to hire me but after I started working she got amnesia! She put me on schedule to work days I had to go school. When I confronted her about it, she told me dont worry about coming those days, but when I didnt show up she tried to write me up! And all this was after I dropped a class to try to work 40 hours for her and I signed up as a 30 hr a week employee! And to top it off THEY WAIT A MONTH AND HALF TO TELL ME THAT SINCE I'M A LPN THEY'RE GONNA USE ME AS A TECH! Then she tried to make it seem like I had too much personal stuff going on to work there because all I wanted was one f#$%ing day off a week to go to school. I dont know If I'm more hurt than mad or what. I gotta finish school.

want to work from home..PLEASE ADVISE!!
Hey guys, I have too much going on with my kids right now and I really need some flexibility as I believe family comes first. (BUT WE GOTTA EAT!) I'm an LPN with med surg, home health, hospice and seven years coding experience prior to nursing. Is there anything i could do from home? Do you think somebody would give me a chance if I took some medical transcription courses? I wouldn't have experience but I am a nurse, that should count for something. Do you think anyone would let me do their billing? If so, as an independent contractor what should I charge? Can you guys give me some names of some companies I can contact? Please reply guys!! Sorry for all the questions. My kids really need me right now.

CRNA cirriculum... how intense?
I have returned to school for my BSN. After that I would like to go for CRNA. I know it is probably rough. Is it true that you cant work at all?! I cant be unemployed for 30 months. Has anyone attended Union University in Jackson, TN or UT College of Health Science?

please help! not good with sticks
Can someone give pointers on how to perform a successful stick. Sometimes I feel like I got to be in the vein because I see the needle right on top of it but no flash occurs. I also know that the stick is real superficial and not to go too deep. Perhaps am I going in too far? Maybe not choosing good sites? The times that I am successful is when its a nice size vein but everyone doesnt have nice veins. any pointers?

LPNs working in dialysis... do you like it?
thx for input. Good luck with school. You should be burned out after all those years though. I dont plan on doing anything that long. Attention span is too short.

Starting as a hospice case manager...
hey. I just left hospice not to long ago. And I agree with the other nurses that it is unusual to see pts once every other week. Are the the sup over the LPN case manager that has that actual caseload? Thats how it was were i came from. The RN did supervisory visits q 2 weeks. I left hospice because it was arbout that damn paperwork and keeping the census up and not about the pts. Paperwork is no joke. If u dont keep up u will b doing paperwork at home. But it can b very rewarding.

LPNs working in dialysis... do you like it?
okay. I was just offered a position at a chronic dialysis center. I was so excited because i thought it would be a cool specialty to learn:D. I plan on being done with RN school in a couple of months and i thought previous experience would help increase my pay too if i decided to go somewhere else. But I have been discouraged by soooo many negative threads on this site:eek:! Seems like everyone hates it! Somebody please give some positives. I'm having second thoughts now.

Picc Line Placement Training

Picc Line Placement Training
thx momdogz. I figured that was the best place but I just didn't know if I could get hired after a course and get further training while on the team or what. I dont want to have to start out as a unit nurse or something. All I want to do in a hospital is place PICCs.

Picc Line Placement Training
I would love to learn how to place PICC lines once I finish my BSN. But I was wondering is there a minimum amount of experience you must have as an RN before you seeK training and do have to have alot of hospital experience because I hated working the floor. And lastly, is the hospital the only place where you can get training?

Know any good resource materials on hospice nursing?
Just got into hospice and I was wondering if anyone knew of any resources I could look into that might help me when interacting with caregivers and the patient.

is it really a long wait for CPNE?
Thanks. I have already taken AP I, II, English I, II, psych I. II, human growth and development, oral communication, and nutrition. I know I need micro and sociology. Can you think of anything else EC requires for the BSN that I can take while I wait?

I am thinking about enrolling in EC but I am turned off when I hear about 6-9 month waits to take the CPNE. Is this true?

I suck!
Thanks to all who replied. I really needed the support. Im just taking a day at a time and I will try to suck in as much info as I can to become better. Anyone have advice on how to communicate more effectively with an interdisciplinary team during meetings? I get so nervous I get sick and break out in sweats and I have to go through this as a hospice case manager every two weeks.

I suck!
I have been a nurse for a year now and i still have not gained confidence as a nurse. First of all i feel cheated because the program i went through was terrible and i dont feel i got the best education. Second, it seems like everything intervention i initiate some other nurse comes behind me and does something better. Im always second guessing my self so i end up not doing what i knew i should have done in the first place. I mean dont get me wrong i havent killed anyone or anything its just that i want to give the best care i can. I want to be a rockstar nurse too! I tried working in a hospital on the med surg floor for experience but i was treated so bad and the pay was a joke. The RNs dont even want to work with the LPNs less alone give a new LPN advice. So needless to say i had to leave. Now i do hospice. I thought maybe when i go back for RN i will get the education i need but im afraid that maybe i just suck and cant critically think. It really hurts when you have the passion and the drive but not the ability. Would you pick another career cause thats what im leaning toward.
