Definitely not doing this for the money, but I was just curious. I would have quit school already because of the difficulty level if it was just for the money. Well in May of 2010 I will have a BS in Nursing and will be an RN. All I will need is a MS after May- so from what I gathered from your information I have to go to school 2 years for my MS?

I am in Nursing school right now, and I have about a year and a half left. I was wondering how long after I get my BSRN degree would I have to go to school? How much do Nurse Practitioners make? Can Nurse Practitioners work with babies or Labor and Delivery? I have heard many things from other students in my school, but I have not heard anything from a professional who has been there already.

I also know that I want to experience Labor and Delivery for a little while when I begin working. But I have thought about working in the NIC unit. What exactly do NICU nurses do? I know that they deal with premature babies- at least I think anyways. What type of schooling do I need after I finish My BSRN degree? Also, how long would I have to go to school and around how much money do NICU nurses make? What type of hours to NICU nurses work?

It is possible to do this during a regular semester, but I don't know if I could muster up the courage to take it in the summer only because you are in class longer so it cuts down on your studying time. But, I have heard that for the summer classes teachers are not as hard as the regular semesters, so if this is the case I think it is possible. I would ask people at your college if summer classes are easier than regular semester classes. I don't think you will have much if any play time. Good luck

Do you think i should drop either spanish 3, allied health 2 and try to fit in Human Anatomy or just wait till my senior year. What would colleges for in classes in a student? I have heard the more science class you have the better. Also does taking College prep class, or Honors class matter? Drop spanish 3- you don't need it at all. I would suggest taking human anatomy. I took that in high school, and I can't tell you how much more I knew than everyone else for my first A&P class in college. I did not have to worry about studying the stuff I already knew which is great because there is so many other things to study for in college. I am not sure if you should drop the allied health class. We did not have this at my high school, but we learned medical terminology in human anatomy in high school. As far as to what colleges look for in classes in a student- they don't really say "well we don't want her for nursing if she didn't take human anatomy in high school". I know for us in Louisiana we can get TOPS if we make a good GPA which pays for tuition for any college in the state of Louisiana. For TOPS we were required to have 2 foreign languages (ex: French I and II), 3 maths, 1 fine arts, 4 histories, 3 sciences, 4 englishes, and 2 P.E.'s I don't know the requirements to get into college for other states; I believe it varies. I also don't really know about the college prep class thing because I went to a college prep school. Every class we took was college prep. If I were to guess, I would say a college prep class would benefit you because if I compared myself to others in the class I was doing better than them. But keep in mind, I am going to the # 1 rated nursing school in Louisiana so that may have been why other people struggled. So a college prep class may not benefit you. Sorry if I have confused you. Also, there is a section in the carreer area where you can click on a state to see if a masters in midwifery is offered. I live in Louisiana, and there are none in the state of Louisiana so that is a bummer. It also said underneath the map of USA that starting in 2010 a graduate degree will be required for certification to be awarded. I graduate from Nursing in May of 2010. I clicked on it, but not much information was provided about that. How long does it take to aquire a graduate degree?

Thanks to everyone. It's greatly appriciated. I wish I would have known about the ASN to CNM, but I am already in my second year and probably could have gotten into ASN almost a year ago.

You can apply to any masters program or does it have to be specific? Are you required to have experience in the hospital before going for your masters in this area? By the way thank you HeartsOpenWide!

As a nursing student who has done this already, I believe I can help. First of all, it depends on which Biology and Chemistry you plan on taking together. I do not know how they do it in other states, but at Nicholls State we have to take A&P I along with its lab in the first semester. I took Chem. 101 with A&P I and A&P I lab in my first semester as a college student along with living in an appartment with 15 hours of school total and working 26 hours a week. I handeled it just fine. Currently I am taking Pathophysiology (an upper level Biology) with Chem. 208 (Biochemistry). I am doing well in both and do not feel overwhelmed, but I only have 12 hours total. It just depends on mostly determination I think and only a little bit depends on how smart you are.

Hello, I am a nursing student about to start my clinicals in the summer. I know that I may be asking this question a little soon, but I know where I want to work when I graduate. I either want to do L and D or CNM, but I don't exactly know what the difference is. Can anyone help me? I have asked a couple of people from around here, and they do not really know because they don't work in either branch. Also, What is the pay for each, and is further schooling required besides a regular bachelor degree? I live in Louisiana, so I know the pay listed will be slightly less. I have heard that L and D is a lot of shift work at first (crazy hours is how they referred to it), and that it has a high drop out rate because of the hours. HELP!
