  1. I am soooo torn between Texas Tech and UTEP. I got into both PLUS a couple in DC but nixed them out of distance. I did my BSN at Texas Tech and loved the organization and professors. However, it's a 3 year part time program. Whereas I live closer to UTEP, it's a 2 year full-time program, and is gaining a better reputation but still a school trying to organize and establish a strong foundation. Before you ask, yes I work and yes I have young kids. I know Texas Tech is the better school for me but (and I know this is going to sound ridiculous) the thought of going to TTU makes me nauseas. I'm not sure if it's nerves, excitement, or my sixth sense saying it's a bad decision. I felt this way before and during my BSN and am super proud to be an alumni. Help?!?!?!?!
  2. Hey Noodlemore! I just got my acceptance letter today too :) I'm torn though. I also got accepted into George Washington University's FNP program. It's a higher ranked school, takes 3 years to complete (keeps you under 6 credit hours), and the last year is no class work and only clinicals...Might be easier to continue working. However, tuition will be around 45k for the program AND I will have to make 3 trips to D.C. throughout the program. Then there's UTEP. Takes 2 years to complete, gets intense with class work AND clinical at the same time. Is MUUUCHHHH cheaper. Which should I choose? Thanks. For those that got in Congrats!!! Those that didn't...keep your head held high and keep on applying till you get in. One denial shouldn't stop you :)
  3. Oh please let me know if you get in... I'm super nervous but plan to finish my application for January this weekend.
  4. Thank you so much. That makes me feel a little better. My advisor said that the problem is most students don't actually understand the practice they are wishing to major in which is why the admissions board wants the shadowing. I've been a l&d nurse for 2 years now working with cnm and whnp's and completely understand the scope of practice. So my admissions counselor said to make sure I cover that in my essays. Ugh, I'm so nervous!
  5. My concern with that is dishing out 2k for a class other programs don't require, then not even getting accepted. Frontier is my ultimate choice for a program but I wonder if I should hold off on applying until I find out if I get accepted into these other program.
  6. I do have a third recommendation, just didn't list it.
  7. Hey everyone, So I'm getting pretty nervous here. A couple of things, first my GPA is only a 3.6 and my science GPA is 3.5. I'm worried these aren't nearly competitive enough for the program. Second, I have a letter of recommendation from a FNP I've shadowed and one from a former professor. However, I can't seem to shadow a CNM or WHNP due to my night shifts. Unfortunately, my hospital is extremely busy right now and it is difficult to switch back to days in order to spend the day in a clinic then convert back to nights. My advisor states that not having a letter from a APRN in the field I'm applying into may be a problem. Should I just give up on NM/WHNP and apply into FNP instead then get my post-masters in my specialty? I feel like my application may be a little weak in comparison to others and am worried so much about these recommendations as being the make it or break it for me. Any guidance or suggestions is appreciated. Thanks, Diana
  8. I'm curious as well. I plan to apply for Spring '13 for the CN/WHNP program. I'm nervous however that I may not be competitive enough by GPA (3.6) or science GPA (3.5). Not to mention, although I'm a L&D nurse, in my city we don't have Midwifes practicing in private hospitals so I have not been able to shadow a NP in my field. I have however, been shadowing a FNP for the last year and a half and she wrote me a letter. Ugh I'm sooooo nervous that I won't be competitive enough for grad school. BTW, did you guys figure out what "contact the admissions office indicates?"
  9. I'm so jealous of all you guys!!! I want to go their sooooo badly. I need to do the Physical assessment class as well. Did you do it with Frontier? Was it all online for the class or did you need to go in to have your assessments evaluated? How much did they charge you for the assessment class? Congrats on getting in!!! I'm looking to go this fall :)
  10. I'm trying to find a nursing job but under job type I see codes like PT2N or PT1N for the part time positions...does anyone know what these stand for? Thank you.
  11. Hi everyone, I am graduating from El Paso Community College in Texas with my ADN but m husband is Army and we are moving to Florida shortly thereafter. I want to take the NCLEX test when I get to Florida so I don't have to pay the license fee twice (seeing as they are not reciprical states). Is this possible or do I have to get my license in Texas first since that is the state I graduated in. Does anyone know? Thanks for your help, Diana
  12. Does anyone know what rank a mater's in nursing/ nurse practitioner starts out as in the Airforce? I have my RN right now but I'm trying to decide if I should pursue a BSN or MSN. If they start off same rank then it would be pointless to get my MSN before I join. PLEASE HELP!!!!????!!!!
