  1. When I was an ER nurse I did conscious sedation. I pushed morphine and versed for the ortho docs while they were setting bones and casting. This was at a children's hospital. I was under their direct supervision, but I was the one who drew up the drugs and mixed them with saline to be 1:1. I was a nervous wreck the first time I did it on my own (without another nurse supervising). This was after I had passed my PALS certification. After that, I had no problems with doing it. But, I am happy with my job now and would never go back!
  2. I've been a telephone triage nurse for an insurance company for 5 1/2 years. I get to work from home and make over $25 per hr. I wouldn't go back to bedside nursing for twice the pay. That's what's so great about nursing. There are so many opportunities in so many areas of nursing. There's something for everyone!
  3. After more than 20 years as a nurse (I went back to school in my early 30's when I had 2 toddlers), I am happy I am a nurse. That said, I would NEVER go back to hospital nursing. I am perfectly content in my home-based job as a telephone triage nurse for an HMO for Medicaid based in Dayton, OH. I work 7am-5:30pm four days a week and work every other weekend.
  4. I am a telephone triage nurse for an HMO for Medicaid. I had a woman tell me that her baby had a rash on his "Johnson"!! And I had another lady refer to her lady parts as her "snatch". I also get quite a few calls about "vomicking".
