I'm currently in the program, and I'm not impressed. I agree with the above comment that they need to update some content. Also, they should restructure the entire curriculum because so much of what is being taught is either redundant or rushed. As far as the teachers, there are a tiny handful that are actually helpful and effective, but the majority of the instructors just can't teach!! The instructors are all nurses (either retired or still practicing), but being a nurse doesn't mean that you'll be a good teacher. Still, I would recommend SJSU over some expensive university because nursing school just gives you a foundation, but you become a good nurse through experience that can't be obtained through school/books.

thanks bebetisha! in your opinion, which hopitals are best for clinicals. i hear that you learn and get the most hands on experience at vmc. is this true? also, how is the job market like for new grads. are your classmates having trouble getting into new grad programs? is it true that they wont allow you to pick which hospital you want to precept at? thanks again!

hi suzanne4, thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us. i have some questions. as a nursing student who has just started clinical rotations, is it best to try to do most of my clinicals at the same hospital to built professional relationships with the nurses? will doing so increase my chances of being hired by the hospital after graduation? also, what is the process that student nurses have to follow in order to be hired as a nursing assistant? i hear that many hospitals in the bay area have stopped hiring student nurses or CNAs. i wish professors would at least discuss the current nursing saturation in the bay area because a lot of us have no idea just how difficult it will be to land a job.

hi all, i just finished my first semester in the nursing program at sjsu (they refer to it as semester 3). i took all my prereqs at sjsu and applied with a 3.9 GPA. if you've taken physiology and micro at sjsu and earned A's in those classes then i believe you will do just fine. personally, the hardest part was just getting into the program! don't get me wrong, the some nursing classes were challenging. plus, all your classmates are super motivated and on top of things. oh, and you will have to spend A LOT of money on vaccinations, CPR certification, drug test, background check, semester fees, equipment (stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, lab materials), and of course textbooks! just be prepared! best of luck to you all!

hey there, i got a 90 on my teas, and my prereq gpa was 3.92. i actually didn't attend any of the informational meetings cuz they all conflicted with class time or work, but they are highly recommended by the nursing advisors. the lady at the nursing office actually scolded me for not ever attending an advising session! i overheard someone in the nursing office say that a teas score of above 80 is actually really good, so i think you're in good shape! are you done with all your prereqs? i would advise you to definitely save up some money cuz they sent me a list of books i would need for semester 3 alone and it amounted to over $500!!! and i imagine costs would pile up even more when we start clinicals (materials, malpractice insurance, etc.), but it'll all be worth it, right? let me know if you have any more questions! good luck!

i got my acceptance letter today! yay!

i turned in my application yesterday to sjsu's school of nursing and i'm sooo nervous!! just wondering if anyone else is trying to get into sjsu!!
