Hello all, I am relocating to Richmond, Virginia from Pennsylvania. I am looking to work in a hospital setting. I would greatly appreciate any opinions on the city hospitals in Richmond. Anything - good experiences, bad, best paying, public vs private hospitals. I am very open to any of them. I have especially been looking at VCU, riverside hopitals, Bon Secours. I would probably prefer a public hospital and a larger setting. Thanks so much.

I'm from the Pittsburgh area. I moved to New Orleans, LA as a new grad and worked my first two years in a MICU as an RN and now I'm back and starting the job hunt. I'm just wondering about nurse satisfaction and really just what the nice hospitals that are good to their nurses are since I'm really not that familiar with the Pittsburgh Hospital systems. I hear really mixed things about UPMC and am hesitant to apply there. Any pieces of advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello. I'm about to be a new graduate from Pittsburgh, PA. I've gotten really into the Katrina relief stuff the past couple of years and fell in love with New Orleans so I'm looking to move down there as a new graduate nurse and just kind of start life in New Orleans. Anyways, this is all REALLY difficult from afar. I've applied for jobs at Tulane, West Jefferson, Oschener, and I'm trying to apply to LSU. This might sound kind of dumb but I am confused about what the whole set up is with the LSU system right now. Are any of their hospitals hiring and if so which ones are hiring? The website isn't helping me out much and there is not even a place to apply on the LSU websites. From stuff I've heard in the news and things from NOLA.com I'm under the impression that LSU is putting a hold on all of it's hiring and making major cuts. Also, what is Charity hospital associated with and is it up and running? Any enlightenment you can give me on any of this helps to clear it up a ton for me. Thanks so much. Beth

Hi, I am graduating with my BSN this May 08 from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WEST VIRGINIA. I plan on going into critical care. I am from Pennsylvania and went to school in west virginia and I plan on relocating to New Orleans.....hence, the reason for this post. I have been down to the Gulf Coast about 5 times since Katrina has happened doing relief work and I have developed a deep love for that city and it's people and I definitely feel the need to relocate down there. So here is my problem. I am 22 years old and though I am planning this out the best I can, I don't know a soul there and I am in over my head and overhead. I know the city pretty well but I don't know where to start. What is the nursing job market like down there? What is an average nurses salary? Is it going to be possible for me as a young new graduate to make enough to sustain a decent living there by myself? Are the hospitals hiring? Which of the hospital systems down there do you recommend starting out in? Any advice or direction anyone can point me in at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
