  1. Very interesting that I should come across this thread. i worked in L&D for 23+ years and never had to respond to a code, although there were a few that others told me about. I have been out of hospital nursing for a few years, and have been trying to get back into L&D. All of the hospitals that I have applied to require L&D nurses to be ACLS certified. I have since obtained mine, but i agree with some of the other posts, that if you don't frequently have codes, ACLS doesn't do you much good. I hope there are no more frequent codes for you. You have had enough. Hope things get better.
  2. Thank-you for your replies. Does anyone know the name of any agencies in NJ that I could contact to try to get a hospital job? marcirnc:nurse:

Almost 3 years ago I posted my situation of having lost my job after 17 years in Obstetrical nursing due to a vicious co-worker and VP of Nursing. It was over an NRP exam that I was accused of cheating on, which I couldn't have because the answers were given to us. Anyway, I was able to find another job in Pediatric homecare which I have been doing for almost 3 years. During that period of time,I Ihave been trying to get back into hospital nursing, but have been unsuccessful. After almost 3 years, I finally got a few interviews and now they are saying that I need at least 1 year recent hospital experience. How do you get recent hospital experience if noone will hire you. I am an RNC,BSN, ACLS certified with over 20 years experience and I can't get a hospital job. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  4. Thank-you to all who responded to my thread. It makes me feel better to read all of your responses. I will keep in touch with you as I find out any new information. Thank-you again for caring. This web site renews my faith in humanity.
  5. :angryfire I have been an L&D nurse for 22 years and have worked in the same place for 17 years. I have been having some trouble with our new manager who has only been employed with us less than 1 year. I went down to the DON with my concerns. Recently I attended an NRP class that i was scheduled to attend in October, before my card expired, and was told I could not have the night before off, so i couldn't attend that class. Our NRP classes have always been casual, we share answers and talk among each other. Some of the girls fro a previous class had answer sheets and shared them with us. We had them with us but were not using them. The answers were given to us as the class went on. The person instructing the class was previously a staff nurse who had just been promoted to asst. manager. One of her friends reported us for having an answer sheet. She went to the manager and complained & Without any warning or representation we were asked to meet with her after the class, @ which time we were accused of cheating, suspended & susequently lost our jobs. I have a perfect record @ this hospital. Do I wait for the union to arbitrate or get my own Lawyer? An OB went to bat for us & the DON told him to mind his own business. We were never given the opportunity to defend ourselves.Even the co-instructor asked why she was making such a big deal about it, because they gave us the answers. Now we have heard that they are reporting us to the BON. Please advise if you can.
