I am a Medical Assistant and we had the same concerns at Cambridge College, that was 7 years ago and now it's not Cambridge anymore. We actually had an instuctor who in the middle of the Phlebotomy clinical leave the room, to talk to his girlfriend on the phone, while students started to draw blood! He lasted a week and I believe that we went through 3 instructors for our MA class. When did you graduate? Do you feel your education has helped you as a new nurse? BTW, did you have to take the Wonderlic test at Concorde along with the NET? Would you recommend Concorde now?

I can definately relate, I am 41, mother to 3, (16,14 and 6) and foster mom to a five-month old, and a non-practicing Medical Assistant who has been on Maternity leave for six years!!!! I have been putting off nursing school for 6 years. All I have ever wanted to be is a nurse. I can concoct so many reasons why I shouldn't do this; I am too old and how at this age will I be able to handle the class load, reading, clinicals, tuition, etc. in addition to my responsibilities at home? My husband seems to believe that I can do it, so I figure that as long as I have his support then what do I have to lose? Nothing. I am studying for the NET test and plan to take that next week. If all goes well then I will wait for the acceptance/denial letter and go from there. Until then, one day at a time, one step at a time... and a whole lot of praying. BTW the nursing school that I interviewed has a 63 year old female nursing student in their class!

Could you elaborate on the RN program, why was it a nightmare?

Hello out there!!! I have been putting off nursing school for years now!! Mostly out of fear and because my youngest is 6. I have some medical experience- I am a non-practicing medical assistant! My maternity leave has lasted for six years! I have downloaded the DSON Catalog and have read the Admission Policy and Procedures, but would like to know from someone, anyone who has actually been through the process. I would like to know what to expect from start to finally being accepted, about how long it all takes? I would more than likely have to do the prereq. courses. I am curious if the prereq. courses are blended in with the nursing courses or do they get those out of the way first? Do you have to pay for the prereq. courses first, then depending on the GPA do you have to reapply or interview to get in to the program? Questions, questions....Any advise is greatly appreciated. I have read nothing but positive things about this school and would really like to get started. :thankya:

I'm glad I'm not the only one...I have been considering NS for four years and I am 40. I am a medical assistant and have been on maternity leave for five years now! I am having a difficult time deciding on a two year school. I am concerned about the cost, scholoarships, financial aid, and going to school with four children at home and doing a program that runs 8-5 during the day. I have three children: 16,14, and 5 and a foster daughter who is 6 weeks old. I also have a husband who is very supportive but he has a demanding job. I am afraid to get going and then get frustrated with managing both the home and school. Is there anyone out there who has or had the same dilemma who can give me some ideas, or words of wisdom? I really want to pursue a career in nursing.
