  1. Thank you for your feedback Kcam, I felt like 8 seemed high...
  2. Thank you Corazon, that's super helpful!
  3. Can anyone who works in SE Michigan comment on the nurse pt ratio's at Beaumont Royal Oak or Troy? Thanks!
  4. thank you for the feedback, that's very helpful. does anyone know about Beaumont RO, Troy or St. Joes Oakland? Thanks!
  5. I just interviewed at a couple of hospitals in Southeast Michigan for med-surg floors and the Nurse:Pt ratio is 1:6 and up for day shift with 1:8 not being abnormal. Is this standard here? It sounds so high compared to Chicago where and 1:4 is standard with 1:5 being the max. Can anyone comment on this for Beaumont RO & Troy, St. Johns, DMC, Henry Ford? Thanks!
  6. That helps a lot. Thank you. I applied at the end of July based on an early admission deadline of Sept 1. It looks like they've moved the rolling application review back to October 1 and early decision to November 15th, so hopefully I'll hear soon. I'm getting anxious that having not heard from them is a bad sign :)
  7. Thank you for your response. That's good to hear and congratulations on your acceptance :) Like everyone, I would like to know sooner than later. Plus we need a larger house and my acceptance will partially determine what neighborhood we choose. I guess I'll just bide my time and wait to hear. By the way- do they send a letter, call on the phone, email you when you get an interview? I've heard varying things about their communication. We actually sound almost identical in terms of NU, GPA prerequisites and volunteering. I'm a few years though, have been in the workforce and have kids. You are smart to do the program before you have children because you will be able to focus 100% on studies just like college. Best of luck to you and again, thank you for your reply.
  8. Has anyone who applied for Rush's GEM program for June 2009 heard anything yet? I applied 3 months ago and haven't heard a peep from Rush.
  9. Congratulations, that's so exciting! You must be really pleased. Your feedback is helpful. I'm glad to hear someone else is coming from a non-health background and about the GPA average. The interview info is also good to know. It almost sounds like a trick question with a variety of answers that subjectively could all be right (withing reason, of course) Congratulations again and I hope you can now relax and have some fun before the program starts!
  10. That's nice that you have a good group. 34 is a perfect size class and that's great that you all get along. It's a real gamble, you never know if you're going to get a bad class so that's wonderful that you got a good one- it makes all the difference in the world. I think your friend was smart to stop working. I work full time go to school at night and my husband does the same- that's hard enough, but to do it as a single parent? That's really something- good for her. Thank you for your advice and input. I may have a few more questions down the road, but for now this is really helpful. I appreciate it. Take Care!
  11. Thank you for your reply. How are you liking the program so far? Is it 7 quarters like Rush's? Do you mind telling me a little about it. I've looked on their website and read some about it but it's always good to hear about it first hand. Also, do you have children by chance? I will have 2 by the time I "Plan" on starting a program and I know it's going to be hard. If you do, how are you managing your time?
  12. Ah, yes that makes sense now. I just heard that a wave of acceptance letters went out for the Rush GEM program. Does anyone who was accepted or not accepted care to share what their GRE scores, GPA & from what school or what sort of experience in health care or non-healthcare they had going into the interview? Since the program is so brand new, I'm trying to get a gage on what they are looking for in a candidate. Do they weigh what school you attended for undergrad and take that into consideration for the GPA? Any insight would help :) I'm very concerned and am curious to hear from those applicants who are willing to share. Thanks!
  13. So glad you posted this, I'm wondering the same.
  14. Hello Scott, Congratulations, I know a few others who might go there in May 08, but are waiting to hear from other schools first before accepting the Loyola offer. I think that's the smart thing to do. Good luck to you and thank you again.
  15. Hello Scott, Thank you for your quick reply. Ironically, Sasha is the person I emailed previously who hasn't responded. Perhaps she's just been swamped over the past few months? I will call again and ask for her directly. I am not starting in May as I have about 1 1/2 more years of pre-req's (I am only able to take 1 at night per semester due to my work schedule). Are you in the program? If so, how are you liking it?
