Thanks for all of the replies! I can't remember if this is right or not but I think I read that the UC program you need to have 1000 hours of working RN experience to get in. Does this sound right to anyone? Thanks sjsa82 I'll look into NKU, didn't really think about them before. Tim

Yes everything is included in the tuition. So if your financial aid covers all of the tuition then you're set!

Hey all, I'm wondering if anyone has any information on any schools around the Cincinnati area that offer a NON ONLINE RN to BSN program. I can not stand taking online classes, I need to actually be sitting in a classroom listening to someone teach in order for me to feel like I've learned anything. So if anyone knows of good programs or if anyone has taken one and can give me some insight I would really appreciate it. I tried searching on here for a thread on this subject but the search function on this site is appalling at best. Also I'm kind of looking into either UC or Miami. Thanks in advance! Tim

WantToHide- I just went to UC's website for their RN-BSN program and it looks like as long as you are licensed (RN) and completed an associate degree in nursing then you will be alright to get into their program. This is from their site: Requirements for Admission into the Upper Division of the program include: Documented completion of an associate degree or diploma program in Nursing Registered Nurse licensure (within completion of the first quarter of the Upper Division) Here is the link to where that is located: http://www.nursing.uc.edu/AcademicUndergraduate/RNBSN/RNBSNinfo.htm#AdmissionRequirements So to me it seems like no matter where you went to school as long as you passed your NCLEX and have your RN license you should be ok.

Hey guys I'm taking a sociology class and one of the assignments is to research something related to nursing. So the topic I picked was: Female generational differences in attitudes towards having a male nurse provide care for them. My hypothesis is: I think that if the woman is younger than 35 or older than 65 they will be less susceptible towards having a male nurse provide their care. I need to come up with some questions to put into a survey so that I can see if my hypothesis is correct or not. I'm just having some problems coming up with questions to ask. I have the obvious questions like: what is your age, would you let a young male be your student nurse, and would you let a young male nurse provide morning care (ie bathing, dressing, etc...). Can you guys help me come up with some other questions that I could put into my survey? Thanks in advance! Tim

I forgot to mention that they are changing the way that you progress from the LPN into the RN program. You now have to re-apply to the school for the RN program and the requirements are a lot higher than they were for the LPN program. So basically you aren't guaranteed a spot in the RN class. Luckily for me there are 32 seats and only about 25 of us want to move on, so they will be letting in 7 students new straight into the RN program. (Animal I can PM you now, I needed to have 15 posts and this makes number 15 lol)

Adie0321- I'm the one who started the other Hondros student thread about a year ago. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I'm in my fourth term and will (hopefully) be graduating at the end of March with my LPN.

C-Bus - If the stethoscopes are the same from when I got mine in the kit then it will be decent. A lot of people in my class have Littmans but I can hear just about the same out of the one they gave me compared to their Littmans that cost a lot more. I would just use whichever you can hear the best out of.

Cincyguy - To get to the West Chester campus: (if you're coming from east of 75) Go down Tylersville rd where it meets 75. Cross over 75 and you'll see a Meijer on your right. Turn right at that light and towards Meijer. Then you'll come to a T (with Meijer directly in front of you) turn right and follow that and you'll leave the Meijer parking lot and enter the Hondros parking lot. The new building will be obvious (the only one they are building right next to the Hondros one lol).

Wow when I started at the school we didn't have to do all of that registering for classes, all of the classes were already picked for us. We just got our schedules for 4th term and we still don't have to pick our classes. Everyone should be able to get into each class, the only real thing that you should be able to pick is your lab times. They don't have enough rooms to be able to offer multiple times of the classes. So as long as you were accepted into the program you should be able to get into each class.

Animal - I'm going into my 4th quarter of LPN and the only things that we've practiced on each other are: catheters, IV's, and NG tubes... :jester:Just kidding all we've done is just basic vitals on each other. We practiced all of our injections on the mannequins and nerf balls. M&M - The math is just one test towards the end of the quarter. It was very easy, most of us didn't even go to class because it the teacher didn't require us to come. You get 2 chances to pass it, I think about 45 out of 50 of us passed it the first time and everyone did by the second time. I think there were 20ish questions on it... Yeah the grade scale is different, but it's the same at most if not all nursing programs. It's 100-93 A, 92.9-85 B, 84.9-78 C, 77.9 and lower is failing. And they don't round up, so if you have like a 92.6 they won't round up to 93 you're stuck with the B. If you guys want to PM me on here with more questions/concerns that may be easier...

I almost forgot... With the 75% graduation rate... I think they have only graduated 2...maybe 3 classes with each of those classes having probably 30-40 people each... In my opinion this is not good. Having 1 out of every 4 students not graduate is bad, especially if that person makes it all the way to the end only to fail a class for the second time. I hope you guys know about their 2 failed classes rule. You can only fail 2 classes before you are asked to leave the school.

The main thing that I'm worried about is being "street smart". As in once I get into the work force will I really be able to do what I'm learning. Yeah I can pass the tests and hopefully pass NCLEX, but I want the hands on. I want to know that I can do these things...not just know how to do them on paper. This is why I'm having such a hard time with the clinicals. I talked to friends in the nursing program at UC and when I told them I was taking clinicals at a day care and that all my clinicals have been at nursing homes they kind of laughed at me. They get to go to hospitals and actually get to practice what they learn in class. The only thing, besides taking vitals, passing meds or giving a bath, that I've done was give an insulin shot. And that's pretty much how it is for everyone else too. I'm a hands on learner so I feel like this is really hurting me in the long run. As far as the price increase is concerned... About 3 months ago they were approved for government loans. So you might want to look into filling out a FAFSA form and getting money through the government that way.

I'm going to bet that somewhere in their agreement it says that they can change the cost as they see fit. Most colleges raise their tuition from year to year... sorry... Just another reason why Good Sam or Christ is looking better for me!

I don't know about any of the students that have graduated. I don't think that there has been a class to graduate from the RN program as far as I know... but I'm probably wrong on this. You could probably call them up and ask them about their graduates though.

After being at Hondros for 3 quarters I can honestly say that the only good thing about the school is that there is no waiting list. I have only had 2 good teachers (not great, not mediocre, but good) and one of them was hired 3 days before the first day of class and the other was hired almost a week and a half AFTER the first day of class. Most of the teachers are decent, as in the fact that they do their job. Anyone with half a brain can take the power point slides from the quarter/instructor before you and read them to a group of students. And that's all the teachers do is just read power points, you can gain the same knowledge staying at home and just reading them yourself. In the past 2 quarters they have struggled to get clinical sites for their students. Like I said before, last quarter we had no site for the first 3 weeks and then we were forced to have our peds clinicals at day cares where all we could do was sit in a chair and watch. And next quarter almost 15 students don't have sites and nearly half of the sites don't have instructors for them. If I was to do it all over again I would definitely look into a different school. Good Sam and Christ are both cheaper (by nearly $15,000 each) and both of their programs are shorter as well. If you are looking for a school to get in right away; but you don't care about the cost, how long it's going to take you to finish, or the quality of the education, then Hondros is the school for you. And as far as me switching to another school and having credits transfer over I highly doubt many will. I've heard other students saying that they tried to apply to Galen School of Nursing only to be turned down just by the fact that they said they were going to Hondros. I'm not too worried about my credits not transferring over because I would gladly retake all of my classes for that fact that I don't think that I had very good training the first time around at Hondros. I don't mean to scare anyone but I am very upset with myself (for jumping into Hondros so fast) and at the school. Hondros is a total let down. Tim

Hey everyone OP here, (I know this is a long post but I really hope that everyone reads it.) I've been really busy for the past few months and had completely forgotten about this thread and I can't believe it's still going on. Sorry to any of the unanswered questions but I am back and hope that I can help everyone now. I will give an update that will probably be more of a rant/vent then anything but here goes... Let me preface this by saying that I had a strong B going into this final, but we needed to get an 80% or higher on the final in order to pass the class no matter what our grade was... At the end of my third quarter, the weekend before exams, we had that huge wind storm that knocked out power pretty much everywhere for a few days. I was supposed to have my IV Therapy final on Monday but it got pushed back to that Friday. They updated the website later that night saying that our exams will stay the same NO MATTER WHAT, EVEN IF THERE IS NO POWER. So I go in early on Tuesday morning to study for my Nutrition final and guess what??? The final has to be pushed back to Friday as well because the teacher hadn't printed off the exam yet and there was still no power... So now I have two huge exams to study for for Friday. And I get a 79% on my IV final and have to retake the class. I tried to go through their grievance process but they said that since I hadn't asked to see any of my other tests in the class that there was no way they would give me one more point and pass the class. Oh and all of their classes are pre-requisites for the next quarter so no moving along and just not taking the second part of IV. So I've been stuck taking one class for the last 9 weeks. Oh and for the first 3 weeks we didn't have a teacher, we just had people from administration reading old powerpoints to us. This isn't the only thing I'm mad about either. Last quarter some of our clinical sites dropped out so we didn't have clinicals for the first 3 weeks or so, and our PEDS clinicals were at DAY CARES where we were only supposed to observe. It seems that some of the clinical sites are starting to realize that Hondros isn't all it's cracked up to be and doesn't want us coming back to them. Also, for my next quarter they don't have a site or a instructor for my group yet either... So after all of this I'm pretty upset with the school and I am looking at completing my LPN and taking my RN at either Christ or Good Sam. Thanks for reading! Tim P.S. The IV teacher said not to worry about passing the final because she had been teaching that class for about 4 quarters and only had 1 person fail during that whole time. I was 1 of 8 people that failed the final in my class.:)

Thanks everyone! So it looks like they are going to let me see my scantron only...which doesn't help me out at all since I don't remember the questions but oh well. Sounds like the fact that they are letting me look at it at all is good considering what some of the other schools are like.

Hey everyone I was hoping to get some help from you! Here's a little background info... I'm a student in a 1 year LPN program which includes IV certification. As per Ohio rules on IV certification you need to pass your final exam with an 80% or higher, I unfortunately received a 79%. So even though I had a B average in the class I am forced to retake the class. My problem is that I want to see my scantron, the test, and the key from that test so I can go over it to see where I made my mistakes. It has been 3 weeks since I took the test and I have already started retaking the class. But I have been fighting for about a week to see my old test. My professor e-mailed me back and said that she had mailed all of the tests to the main branch (about 100 miles away) and said that she can't go over it with me now. So I'm just looking for some help on what I should do in order to be able to look over my old test, or just any information at all. Thanks in advance!

First off, since this is my first post, I would like to say hello to everyone here! :w00t: I have been trolling this site and forum for several months ever since I decided to make the switch to nursing school. I was at the University of Cincinnati for 3 years (2 years in business and 1 year in IT) before I decided to look into their nursing school. But their waiting list was over a year long. So after looking on here I saw the list of schools with no waiting list and saw Hondros on in. I just started my classes on Monday (Jan 7th) so I've only been in it for about a week now. But so far it seems good, the only thing I can compare it to is business and IT classes at UC. But if anyone has any questions about Hondros I would be more than happy to answer them for you. Also just FYI I'm taking my classes at the West Chester and Mason locations. Tim
