I applied to Dalhousie 5 days ago for the 2 year fast rack BScN prorgram and just got my acceptance letter for the 4 year program and it says that they willl tell me in 4 weeks if Im also accepted in the 2 year program. Im happy and excited, it is a bit wierd to go from doctor to nurse LOL, but that is the path I chose by immigrating to Canada and Im so happy here, it is worth beginning again.

well, Ive done a bit of searching and it seems most nursing positions start out around 26/hr for RN's but also seems they are only looking for ones with a few years of experience. What do graduates do after they finish the BScN program? How do they get hired and gain ICU NICU experience or similar experience? Is there any actve recruiting going on or planned for fresh graduates? Where do nurses begin their journey? It is an exciting field to be involved in, I really like that there are different scopes of practice and areas of specialization.

Hello, I am a General Practitioner in another country, but now a permaent resident of Canada. I am expecting to be accepted in two weeks to Dalhousie University for the two year fast track BscN program. I chose Nursing for now as it will take a long time and a lot of money and exams before I will be able ot get licensed as a Doctor in Canada and wanted to stick with the same field of work. What I really want to know is it worth the cost of school at an estimated 12,000 per full calendar year for my program? How lucrative can Nursing be and what are the paths that lead to the highest pay? Since I am already well versed and full of clinical experience as well as labratory managment and some UN work experience as a foreign physician, I would like some pointers or practical advice on how to go about securing a strong financial future for my family through Nursing. To be frank, I have no idea how much Nurses make and in what specialties or positions they make the most. I am highly adaptable and can fit just about anywhere and be happy and successful in whatever I choose, so the next logical issue is what pays the most and where? I like having patient contact and I also like managerial work. Just trying to get a feel whether it is even possible to earn 100-120,000 CAD as a Nurse of some type anywhere in Canada and if so, what would be the proper course of action. I know Im batting a thousand here but I do read now and then of nurses making over 100,000 on these boards and my motto is, if someone else can do it so can I! Im a male, will that hinder me at all in this environment as far as climbing up the ladder goes?
