    Should I leave nursing??

Hi, thank you all for the support. I carry my reference books with me too work everyday (Just in case I need to look something up) We have only 32 patients in the building so it is always just one nurse, occasionally the DON is also there during the day.

    Should I leave nursing??

Can I just say thank you all so much!!! I do think nursing is what I was meant to do, but Like Chainedchaos said, "I look at all I am responsible for and it scares me." I adore my patients and I only want to do the best for them. I do think I am going to brush up. I try to read everything I can, and I do look things up that I have questions about.

    Should I leave nursing??

Are there people who passed nursing school with very good grades but just don't seem to "get it??" I feel like that person!! I graduated in 2001 and had several jobs in different area that I hated...never made it through orientation on most. I have finally found a job I like (LTC), been here 6 month, but barely feel able to keep my head above water. I am very unsure of myself and I am the only nurse on during my shift. Should I return to take a refresher course?? I feel lost even about the basics and I am on my own!!!

    Favorite shift to work

I love second because no Administration around and I like to sleep in. I like first because I usually have the Director to bounce questions around to because I am so insecure in my skills. (Only one nurse in the facilty on second and third)

    career choices CM orUR

I know this thread is rather old, but I am interested in getting in to case management as well. There is a college that offers a Bachelor Degree in Health Service with a concetration in Case Management for nurses with a Assoiate Degree. I was wondering if this is a good way to go. There is also a conference coming up about Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement and was wondering if this would be benificial or too far over my head. I am currently working as a staff nurse in LTC.

Accepting respites on a dementia unit

We had something along the same lines in our facility last month. We accepted an Alzheimers patient to the facility for a respite. I do not think our facility was the best place for her, as none of the staff was ever trained for Alzheimer patients and we are not Alzheimers "Proof". I think we did a great job with her, but I just have to wonder if it was too much risk.

    Out Of BEDSIDE nursing

That is the problem Mattsmom, there are parts of bedside nursing I absolutely love. I adore my patients and love sitting to talk with them. (seems like there is never enough time though!)

I agree with the above post by Quickbeam, these jobs aren't easy to come by.

Thanks for the replies. Helllllooo Nurse I feel exactly like you!! I toss and turn all night and when I do sleep I dream about work!! I don't think I would want to leave the field totally, because I do love some aspects of it, but I am buring out FAST!! I love animals, but working in an animal shelter unfortunately won't pay my bills, other than that I don't know what I want to do

    Confidence?

Thank you Jenac, I agree it does take a while to feel comfortable. I have been there about 6 months now and I still feel very lost and incompetent (Sp?) I don't have another nurse to ask questions, I am the only nurse in the facility. I have to call the DON at home when I need to ask something. I love the patient and most of the staff...and I don't want to start somewhere new again and feel lost all over again!!
