  1. Thank you for the edit traumaRUS, I apologize for not knowing about posting a survey link, thank you for posting the questions from the survey on here. I realize this won't be anonymous now, but would still love some feedback from other nurses and NP's. From the responses I have received so far on other sites and groups, and of course my own experience, I know we could use more love and support as a profession!
  2. I am a psych NP in private practice. I can't speak to the military piece of your question, but I know there is a great need for mental health providers in the military, really in general. If you have a passion for psych, you will love this job. They pay overall is very good for PMHNP's. Good luck on your program!
  3. I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner and I think there will always be a place for advanced practice nursing. I read through the comments and do agree that there is a wide range of quality when it comes to NP programs, which is problematic, however overall there is a provider shortage and I don't see NPs being phased out anytime soon, especially in psych. Here in Idaho, many employers prefer NPs as we don't need physician supervision like PA's do. I literally have never had to look for a job, jobs find me and they are all high paying/good jobs. I share this only to encourage you to keep going! If being an NP is your dream, then go for it and don't let the negative comments distract you.
  4. Hello! I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner from Idaho and am looking for your opinions. I am considering creating a support network or coaching/mentor program for other healthcare professionals. I know in our field of psych, there is a lot of burnout and stress. I think in general, healthcare providers are an under-served lot. I would love to hear from other providers as far as their job stress and how that impacts their home life. I have created an anonymous nine question opinion poll and would love to get some feedback. This is strictly to gather opinions, there is nothing to opt-in to or buy. Thank you so much! The link is attached or feel free to comment below. [h=4]1. Describe your professional role. What field are you in? What is your work setting? Do you work independently or in a team setting? What is your overall level of satisfaction in your current work environment?[/h] [h=4]2. Are you able to "disconnect" from work when you are home? If not, what are your biggest obstacles to separating your work and home life?[/h] [h=4]3. What keeps you awake at night? What do you spend time worrying about? What are your biggest areas of concern when it comes to work stress?[/h] [h=4]4. Are you able to relax, or are you someone who always has to be doing something? Do you struggle with feelings of perfectionism? Do you have any rigid behaviors or beliefs when it comes to your work performance or way of practice?[/h] [h=4]5. Are you having any relationship, financial,or health problems due to occupational stress?[/h] [h=4]6. Have you ever thought about working with a coach or mentor to get support for any of the issues described above? How do you feel about asking for help in general?[/h] [h=4]7. How would you like your life to improve if you were to work with a coach/mentor? What specific outcomes would you like to achieve at work and with your home life? Are there financial or creative goals you would like to work on? Are there any mindset shifts you would like to see if you worked with a mentor or coach?[/h] [h=4]8. What are you currently doing for self-care? What is currently working for you? What have you tried that didn't work?[/h] [h=4]9. Do you have any spiritual/religious beliefs that are important to you? Would increasing your spiritual connection/intuition be something you are interested in if you were to work with a coach or mentor?[/h]
  5. Hello! I am a family PMHNP and love it. I used to get on here when I was an RN and would look for psych NP posts, but you're right, there's not a lot of us on here I don't think. I would recommend working as a psych RN first before choosing this path. It's not for everyone. Plus I think it helped grad school go so much smoother because I had a lot of clinical experience already. If you like working with this population though (which I do) then it's great. I can say I really do love my job. I work in a rural setting in Idaho so the salary isn't quite six figures, but cost of living is low here and I qualified for 100% loan repayment. Hope this helps. For anyone thinking about this route-don't be discouraged! Just get some experience first. Oh, and there are TONS of jobs. I had four different job offers before I left school and that's out here in Idaho!
