  1. Why does this surprise me? In a state where nurses are considered a "dime a dozen" easily replaced by anybody going thru a local tech school. (of coorifice they need a RN to sign off to make it look legit)
  2. Thats Oklahoma for you. Where they use EMTs in the ER that do everything the RN including triage assessments passing and pushing meds and then the RN signs off on the chart. Why would they pay more when they can piggy back workers off of you. Why even bother getting a education or BSN.
  3. Shift diffs and all, the pay is still not up to par. They keep saying "The cost of living is so much cheaper", cheaper then where? sure Ca and a few other places. Housing is cheeper, but in the long run the cost of living is not. I moved here earlier this year, am making $7.00 less a hour (YES My BASE PAY). Food is not any cheeper, car ins is double, state tax more, house ins. triple with less house. It equals out the same, the cost of living, but I am making that much less.
  4. I worked at Port Huron for less then a week back then. I am so glad I kept a prn postion at my old hospital, so I slipped right back in. When gas prices started to go up, I thought I would give them a try cause it was half the trip. Let me tell you, I would rather have the drive and pay for the gas. Now I am living out of state, and really miss my old hospital. How far are you from Mt.Clemens? A lot of people car pool from Port Huron. Mt Clemens General was a good place to work, and so is WB.
  5. PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK! You dont even have to join a union in this state if you dont want to. The "Right to work" law or whatever discourages that. Then, you would have to educate everyone what a union can do for them, because they seem to think its some yankee organazation that justs takes your money. They dont even Get IT HOW CRAPPY NURSING IS HERE, But the hospitals and managers have them so hoodwinked its like "Thats the way it is" Lets see we also get the "My Husband says no, so I could never join a union". Is their husband the one running their ass off, just doing so you can get thru the shift. And critical thinking skills whats that? If its on the order do it, if the dr says so do it, cause THATS THE WAY IT IS. The Nurses in this state have a long way to go. They need to learn we are the most valuable asset the hospitals have, and worth the respect we deserve. I say "OH I must of been lucky to have worked in my old hospital", but it was not luck, it was the way nursing should be, and with the best outcomes for the pts. And yes, I wish i could go back, but that would mean a divorce after 23 years, and after all these years I have started to think about it. Forgive the spelling.
  6. What Hospitals Are Teaching Institutions In The Tulsa Are?
  7. No peds, only Er, stepdown and telly.
  8. Dont do it. The nurses are responsible for everything! I mean its nuts. The nurses I am working with are great, but some do not know any better as have never worked anywhere else. Stay away. Pt ratio for work load is unreal. I have worked at other facilites and believe me you do not want to start your career at this hospital.
  9. Moving to Tulsa, Ok. later this year. Which hospitals are Rn friendly? Currently work at a teaching hospital. Have worked Er and the floors. Any advice? Thanks!
