  1. Yay I got in. See some of you there!
  2. Hmm, there are so many places. Up (way) North, where you are talking about, I would suggest Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=415 Of course, Mt. Shasta is beautiful, as you said. If you want to go to as far as my area (Santa Cruz), I would highly recommend Big Sur http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Sur And there is always Yosemite...can't really go wrong there.
  3. I appreciate the information. Thanks for the reply!
  4. Hi There, I'm in the Bay Area (currently work in EMS in Santa Clara County) and should be done with nursing school in three years at the latest. I was about to enter one of the local CC programs (not saying which one), but think that I may hold out and apply to the state schools for spring 2009 (I want my BSN, as I plan to get my masters at some point...even if I AM on the old side). Anyway, I am discovering all of these threads about how bad the Bay Area job market is. I'm a 4.0 student and a quick learner, so I don't think that I would have a problem landing a job if there were jobs for new grads, but several threads seem to be saying that those don't exist. I'm wondering if those of you who have been around the nursing world for a while have any wisdom to offer. Do these things go in cycles? If so, how often do you see overabundance switch to shortage and back again? Would I be fooling myself to think that I wont have problems landing a job in three years (I'm not interested in moving away from the Bay Area)? Sages, I am in need of your wisdom...
  5. Ah! Well, thats encouraging. Thanks very much for the input.
  6. Hi there, I'm just about to enter nursing school and I have a question about employment that I'm hoping that someone can answer. I KNOW that I want to work in an adult ICU. I have been looking at the employment (prematurely, but I'm just looking) available in my area, and every job that I can find in an ICU requires 1 year of ICU experience. We have quite a few hospitals in my area, and they all seem to require this. It's like I'm in a Joseph Heller novel. In order to work in an ICU I have to have worked in an ICU... My question is, how do people break in? Anyone have any advice? If so, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
