Mount Aloysius College
i've never heard of an "easy"nursing program but i will say that admission into the program is pretty simple. you take the teas, score appropriately and since there isn't a wait list you're pretty much a shoe in. the program isn't for everyone of course, nearly half my clinical group didn't make it to level 2. i've learned how to manage my time and perfect my study habits.i did apply to conemaugh and was invited to interview but i was accepted to mac first and since it is close to my home i chose to attend their program instead. the school has a good reputation and they have excellent technology to help us with clinical skills and in the end i will graduate with a degree in nursing. i have heard of some competitiveness between conemaugh and mac students and i don't really understand it. maybe because alot of mac graduates go on to work at conemaugh and everyone wants to think that they are smarter than the next nurse. regardless of what conemaugh students think of mount aloysius i do plan on working at conemaugh and then moving on to bigger and better things outside of cambria county.

a friend of mine is trying right now to get into the lpn program in altoona. i go to the mount right now and start my 2nd semester in the fall. it's the most challenging thing i've ever done but so very worth it! the best lesson i've learned this year is to stay away from the negative students you'll encounter and study your butt off. your motivation will be what gets you through the year. good luck to you! you'll do great!

i just wonder about your statement,"diversity can be a good thing, it can also be a bad thing when it goes too far" can you clarify what you mean by this? i don't see how diversity can be bad, after all that is what the united states is about. i love being the naturally tan girl in my class and how people stare at me when i walk in the room because i am so different, but i am not that different and i think that's the point i'm trying to get across. it's a difficult subject to put into words because unless you've been there you don't know and will never understand.

i love that you graduated top of your class! that's wonderful. most people don't know i'm puerto rican, they assume i'm middle eastern, indian, hindu, hawaiian, italian, you name it. it's all the same to them. i'm doing awesome in my program(alot better than most of my classmates) i'm trying my hardest to graduate with honors just to prove that i am a hard worker and i want to be the best nurse possible.

sorry to sound like a broken record. maybe instead of looking for puerto ricans i should be inviting anyone that is or feels like a minority in their nursing program. no discrimination here!

Can you tell me where in Southern Pa? If I had to guess, I bet it's south east Pa. I'm not being sarcastic or rude, I'm just wondering. Right now I live in a small town and I remember the first time I saw an african american walking down the street. It was memorable to say the least. I look forward to moving out of Pa after I graduate only because I was born in Brooklyn and I'm thirsting for some culture.

i live in western pa which is as culturally diverse as well, most of pa until you get to philly. i've lived in mercer, westmoreland, and potter counties. i currently reside with my hubby and 2 little ones in cambria county.(pretty diverse in johnstown) i have repeatedly found myself to be the only puerto rican in the whole school if not the whole town. i plan on living here a couple years after i graduate (3 semesters left of ns)then we plan on making a new life in new hampshire. i just want to know if anyone is or knows any puerto ricans that are pursuing nursing careers? i was born in brooklyn of course and my parents migrated to pa when i was 8. i've endured alot of racism growing up in a very small town and just want to hear from others that have endured and grown up to be better ppl because of it. :typing

Comparing Pittsburgh hospitals
what great information for a student torn between working in pgh or moving out of state. why would you want to work for a hospital with no union? 20-21 bucks/hour!?not worth the commute into the city. thanks for helping me make my decision on moving to new hampshire.
