Well from what I read, I am not required to have my BSN and because I don't is why I will have to do my SEC. I was just wondering if someone had done the whole process and how long it took them, that's all.

I will have 8 years of nursing by February 2013. I have med/surg, tele, specialized cardiac and CCU experience, along with currently working in float pool. It is my understanding that because I don't have the BSN thats why I will need the SEC and CRNE exams. I plan on going to Alberta. I am dating someone from canada and plan on moving there. I also read on the alberta nursing board that canada is going to start doing the NCLEX instead starting 2015.
  3. Hello, I am in the beginning stages of applying to transfer my US RN license to Canada. I am a 2 year degree RN and figure I will need to do the SEC in addition to the CRNE exam. Has anyone from the US done this and how long did the whole process take to get your final license?

just curious, what do you think is the hardest part to learn in ER? I feel fairly comfortable in managing cardiac drips, i do well on EKG interpretation, and have gone to a lot of codes, but never ran one as our ICU CRN does that but i have a good understanding with that I think. Do you guys titrate drips on your own or have to have a Dr. orders? Will have to brush up on my peds vitals but sure that will come back quickly, but I also have never started an IV on a baby O.o. I am a little worried about trauma as i have not had to deal with that. I am not usually squeemish and can eat while people vomit and GI bleeds don't bother me either.....lol, but having bones sticking out of people while they are screaming is a whole nother story, but i guess you just focus on the task at hand and don't think about it too much.

I am currently finishing up my year in the cardiac ICU. I will be moving form my current job to a new area and I think I would really like to give ER a whirl. I have 16 months med/surg, 1 year peds, 1 year icu.....what would be the hardest part in crossing over, and should it be fairly doable?
  6. Hello, i am a fairly new nurse (graduated 2 years ago). The state i lived in only had one hospital in the area and all of us were required to pretty much do med/surg upon graduation. I did, and only lasted 6 months before my anxiety level got so bad that I was not able to sleep, had lots of nausea, et. I left that job and took joined a very busy pediatric practice and loved it. We recently moved to a new state and noone would hire me without my 1 year in med surg and doctors offices down here really only hire LPNs, so I took a job with the local hospital on med/sug again. This time i am working nights and it is better but I am starting to have that same problem again. Unable to sleep, lots of upset stomachs, anxiety, and am now taking anxiety meds. I don't know what to do. I don't knwo why I feels this way, its not my skills as i feel confident in those. My dilemma is that I am the primary breadwinner in my family now as the wages here hare half for my husband than what they were before we moved. I think for me its dealign with the patients themselves and the families. I don;t know how to deal with the patient who is on the call bell every 5 minutes or those people who are such drama queens. I think I would do great in the OR or even out patient surgery, just not the floor, but it seems that hospitals fill those jobs from within when they open up. I just don't know if i can make it another 3 months like this. I feel trapped and helpless which is so unlike me. I am considering home health but is 9 months med/surg and 12 months peds doc office experience enough? I could cry........
