  1. hi everyone. let me start off by introducing myself. my name is phil and i just got accepted into the nursing program from a local community college. i have worked very hard the past 2 years at all my pre-reqs while taking care of a family and working full time. i am sure that sounds very familiar to all of you out there. i am a computer engineer right now, but decided to go into nursing after i got ill and had to spend some time in the hospital. i saw the polar opposites in nurses, a great one, and one that was absolutely horrible. i saw what kind of a difference a good nurse makes, and at that moment i decided i wanted to be that person. i am really glad to have found this forum, and i hope you don't think it is rude for my first post to be a question, but here it goes... i am trying to figure out how i am supposed to support my family while in the program. right now i make good money and completely understand that my income will drop a lot. but are there any options out there for nursing students besides stafford loans? i guess what i am wondering is how others have done it? any advice would be greatly appreciated. -phil
