  1. Congrats Sephywiggin!! What program did you get accepted into??!!! We will be classmates so that's exciting! For now, at least, we can feel a lot lighter b/c the weight is finally off our shoulders and be able to enjoy the holidays coming up.
  2. Good luck everyone in the application process! I will be starting the ELMSN program in Sacramento this January, so I thought I'd try to make this process a little easier since I know how stressful and confusing all of it can be..I believe that they use a very similar admission process (if not almost the same) for the ABSN application as well from what I was told from the school... My personal statement was double-spaced, but I must admit that I manipulated the margins and space between each lines a lot to fit A LOT more information into the 2 page max. The last 60 sem/90 quarter units includes all the units taken after your first degree also. For instance, I took around 40 semester units post undergraduate. When they calculated my GPA, only 20 semester units from my undergraduate education were included in the calculation (which was great since my less than stellar grades were during my earlier years in college). From my interview with the faculty members, they directly told me that they weigh every part of the application pretty evenly. Samuel Merritt really strives for the "overall" performance of the individual; which was what I really liked about the school b/c I don't believe grades determine a person's potential. If you scored really well on the NETs, it may offset your lower GPA. I also think that your pre-reqs, especially in science, is weighed a little higher since these classes are the basics you should really know prior to acceptance. Therefore, it will help you stand out a little more in the crowd if your pre-reqs are done and you received good grades in those particular classes. The head of admissions also told me that volunteer work in the health care field is also good to have also b/c it's good to know the actual role of a nurse in the "real-world"....it doesn't neccessarily have to be in the hospital tho. I did a lot of my volunteer work in community organizations. I hope my little input based on my own experience helps and gives you a little information to answer some of your questions. Good luck!
  3. Congrats HappyAugust & CJCaputo!!! :) We'll be classmates for the first part of the program (before we merge off to our specific Masters Study program)!!!...I know it's such a weight off of ur shoulder.. I just had my "Intent to Register" payment cashed and although it's making my wallet a little empty..it's sooo worth it after all the hard work! Good luck to everyone else..I hope you guys get the call ...
  4. Hey HappyAugust and other forum lurkers, Based on my interview that I had on the 8th, the faculty member that interviewed me directly told me that those who get early admittance will hear within the week of their interview. The rest of the decisions will then be made around the end of September/early October. She also told me that not all decisions have been made for the FNP or the CM track yet even though the FNP interviews were done in early/mid August. I also have some friends who applied to the FNP track for Sacramento this year and have already received notice of rejection. I'm not sure if they send rejection notices out before decisions though. I think the best way to get the right information is by calling the school and getting direct answers from Liza, ELMSN admissions counselor, yourself to see if all decisions have been made in the specific program ur applying to. I hope this helped and didn't make it even more confusing! I know the wait is pure torture! Good luck on your GREs... Btw..thanks for the congrats...
  5. Thanks for the heads up. I got in :)!! I was so excited and relieved the wait was over. I received a call the day after my interview... Did you apply to SM??
  6. KDBworkingmom, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get in.... Do you plan on reapplying? If so, this year could be spent making your application that much stronger! Best wishes for you... I just had an interview yesterday (Sept. 8th). Now, I'm left in the waiting game. The interview was a one-on-one interview and very informal and brief..
  7. Yay congrats!!! Good luck :) Did you just hear this week?
  8. No nothing yet!! I hate the waiting..I believe CM interview dates are not set yet (based on my convo with the admissions counselor). I'm trying not to think about it too much b/c I'm just driving myself up the wall. Have you?? I know a former classmate of mine just got an invite to interview for the FNP track today so if you're still waiting..hang in there :)
  9. I hope you get a call soon too!!!! I hope we all doooo....
  10. In another thread that I started, an ELMSN-NP applicant informed us that they recieved an invite for interviews last week for August 7th. I know that the different tracks have different sets of interviews. After hearing this information, I emailed the admissions counselor about the ELMSN-CM track and she informed me that the faculty for the specialty I applied to has not yet set a date for interviews (phew!). She also said that the CM interviews wll mostly likely be in late August through September. For all potential CM students lurking out there, I hope this info helps everyone relax just a tiny bit. Have you heard KDBworkingmom?? If you haven't, I hope you get word from SM soon :)
  11. Best of luck to you Tofulover! Yes, the CM applicants have different sets of interviews. The staff at SM informed me that CM students will most likely be interviewed at the end of August through September. The faculty has not yet set a date for interviews in this particular program. I've heard that interviews for both NP and CM are vastly different from one another. I hope you make a great impression on them and get early admittance! :wink2: Let us forum lurkers know how it goes!
  12. No word on my end!! I'll definitely keep everyone posted if I get word about interviews. Please do the same so that we can all keep each other from going insane. I've been so tempted to call the admissions counselor to ask when they anticipate interviews to start, but have stopped myself from coming off too pushy and desperate lol. I even check these forums every minute just in case someone has posted on the topic... What is everyone's background?
  13. Hi KdbWorkingmom, I know SM looks at individuals of all backgrounds and knowledge. I know a former classmate who was accepted into the ELMSN-NP program with no prior patient contact at all. I know that interviews at the Sacramento Regional campus last year started inviting people for interviews in the beginning of August. There are some that were given acceptance offers immediately after the interview (early admittance) and others had to wait another torturous few months (Oct.) to hear word of acceptance. Based on the past threads here and actual word of mouth from individuals who went through it, the interview process is pretty different for the NP program in comparison to the CM program. Hopefully, we don't have to wait too much longer to get a call about interviews!!
  14. Yay!! Someone finally responded to the thread. I won't feel as alone anymore as I wait with future potential classmates (if we get accepted). Lets update each other on here when we get calls for interviews, acceptance, etc. I applied to the case management track b/c I have a firmer background and higher passion for the social services aspect of this area; although any area of nursing can be related back to social services. I have a BA in cultural anthropology/health sciences from UCLA. My undergrad gpa was less than stellar but I took all the pre-reqs after my degree at a CC where I received all A's. Therefore, my last 60 units gpa was high. I spent the last two years working for a health/social services organization where I've had direct patient care exposure in rehabilitation, a dialysis center, and nursing home. SM is my number one choice..the wait is absolutely killing me! I hope you don't mind me asking what your stats and background..I love hearing about the diverse pool of students that apply to accelerated programs..good luck to you!
  15. Anyone else apply and also anxiously waiting???
