  1. Has anyone attended either Baptist School of Health Professions or SAC's schools of nursing? I want to get into an RN program, but would love to hear some insights/experiences about the above two schools before diving into the applications process. T...
  2. Shabbos/Religious Observances

As I begin the applications process for nursing schools, I have one huuuuge concern - my religious obligations. I am not permitted to work/attend school, etc. from sunset Friday nights until an hour past sunset on Saturday nights because of the Jewis...
  3. tips for nursing prereq students?

:idea:Any suggestions for a moderately-math-challenged nursing prereq student? I am going to be taking chem soon and I'm very nervous about it... Are there any practice books etc that you have heard of or anything beneficial to someone taking the pre...
  4. Hospice Aide Work

I am thinking of applying to a local hospice center as a CNA. Could someone describe for me the typical work of a CNA in a hospice home? Or experiences they have had as a CNA there? Thanks!
  5. Ethical Objections to Dissection

Another prenursing student I met on another nursing site says she was able to bypass the usual A&P dissections because of an "ethical objection" (that's how she put it) to dissections (animal and cadaver alike). She was able to complete the disse...
  6. Ethical Objections to Dissection

Wow! I thought the ol' fetal pigs and sheep eyes were status quo! Lucky you! *winces at thought of formaldehyde smell*
  7. Ethical Objections to Dissection

I thought it was interesting that some schools even offer the lab sections of A&P online, using computer programs. It doesn't really seem fair to those of us who are actually dissecting (it's not my favorite part of the course, to say the least, ...
  8. tips for nursing prereq students?

    thanks! i'll check those out!!!
  9. is this a smart idea?

I am taking nursing prereq's starting in March (I need the A&P's, microbiology, chemistry and psychology), but don't really have a lot going on schedule-wise until then. Would it be a smart move to learn (as much as possible, at least) the A&...
  10. is this a smart idea?

Thanks for your replies, everyone! I guess I also feel like I need to be prepared (for everything class-wise, at least). I think I'll also browse the book just to familiarize myself with the material!
  11. Shabbos/Religious Observances

Just FYI - women don't have to sleep in a separate room when they are niddah (bleeding/waiting for mikvah night).
  12. Shabbos/Religious Observances

    Definitely! :)
  13. Shabbos/Religious Observances

    Oops! Sorry I misunderstood you!
  14. Shabbos/Religious Observances

An Orthodox Jewish conversion requires immersion in a mikvah - a ritual bath. The mikvah itself can resemble a hot tub (at least that's what I think they look like!), the water is heated and chlorinated, and in many cases, mikvahs are very beautiful....
  15. Shabbos/Religious Observances

The issue wasn't that they were Black people, of that I am sure. There are many, many Black Jews in America, Israel and around the world. I can't recall the details but there was another side to the story with the Ethiopians.
  16. Shabbos/Religious Observances

Judaism is considered an ethnic group as well as a religion indeed.
  17. Shabbos/Religious Observances

hi agnus, that instance would not be requiring my husband to work. in the sense of shabbos observance, only certain things are considered work - they are called melachos, and they are the applications of 39 biblical prohibitions. for more information...
  18. Shabbos/Religious Observances

This particular question would have to be posed to a competant Orthodox rabbi. I spent two Shabboses in the hospital when I gave birth to my daughter and my younger son, and I had my husband stay with me and notify the nurses' station personally so I...
  19. Shabbos/Religious Observances

that's a very common misconception - many people assume the prohibition against pork, for example, had to do with avoiding [color=#0000cc]trichinosis. the laws of kashrus are more spiritual than physical. they too, are complex and observed at a multi...
  20. Is nursing "really" for me?

Hi Everyone, I am new to the boards here. I am a 23-yr-old stay-at-home mom with the opportunity to begin college at this point in my life. I have had the desire to pursue nursing as a career for several years now, but the chance never presented itse...
  21. Shabbos/Religious Observances

A couple of people asked specific questions; I will hopefully answer those tonight or tomorrow morning! :)
  22. Shabbos/Religious Observances

    You're welcome!:welcome:
  23. Shabbos/Religious Observances

Glad to know that we are on good terms! If there were absolutely NO other nurses who could do what I was able to do, then of course, I would be allowed to work in order to save lives. But in our society, as I said before, there are plenty of qualifi...
  24. Shabbos/Religious Observances

One is most certainly allowed to care for sick family members, etc on Shabbos. There are different ways that we do things (for example, applying ointments with the opposite hand or in a different manner to differentiate the ways we do things on Shabb...
  25. Shabbos/Religious Observances

Well-put, Natania. I respect the religious customs of others, and acknowledge that even though they cannot necessarily be compared/equated/whatever in terms of days to work and not work and what can and cannot be done, etc, they are precious to the p...
