Count Sheet Questions...
On your Count Sheet, does your hospital require you to count Hypodermic needles? We don't, but I think we should. Also, we count scratch pads, but not the Fred pads (used for Lap. surgeries). Don't you think that's strange, too? I've only been working at this hospital for a couple months, so I'm just wondering what the routine is in other OR's.

Limit to the Number of People in the OR??
Does your hospital limit the number of people who are allowed to be in the operating room during surgery? I work at a large teaching hospital, and we are constantly having to tell students to leave, because we are limited to 10 people in the OR. Does your hospital have a limit??

OR Nursing - what are your hours?
In the OR where I work, we only have 8 hour shifts. It's strange though, because all the other nurses in the hospital seem to work 12 hour shifts. But I love my 7am-3pm schedule, you still have so much of the day left after work, and those 8 hours at work just FLY by.

A Good First Impression
I am starting a new job, in a couple weeks, as a circulating/scrub nurse in a large hospital OR. I have worked for almost 7 years at a very small Ambulatory Surgery Center, so I have ALOT of new things to learn. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make a good first impression? I am really nervous because I don't have a lot of experience in the different surgeries that this hopital does.

Most RN's first borns?
Very interesting topic. I feel like you have described me exactly--first born, RN, alcoholic father.

What's your favorite pair of nursing shoes?
I feel like I have tried EVERY brand of nursing shoe/sneaker available and all have hurt my feet terribly, but, I have finally found one I love--Dansko's! They are so comfy, the arch support is excellent. I spend over 10 hours per day on my feet in the OR, and they are the only ones that I can wear and don't leave work limping!
