  1. Hi there..I'm 57!! (yeah, I DO like saying that! ) and will begin school in August. Quit 20 years in Office Mgmt two years ago to return to school and take my prereqs. I still don't know how my husband and I are making it on just his salary for the past 2 years...except that this was DEFINITELY God's plan for me. I agree with those who have written about the "transition" I am going to face. I'm sure my first day I will be tempted to offer a quicker, more pratical approach to whatever is going on! But I assure you that I will not... I have a goal in mind (and not much time right?)..and am smart enough to know not to ruffle feathers and bruise egos...and after all..I heard that they for sure EAT THEIR YOUNG!! I'm excited ..and trust me..anybody who says "you're a fool" is simply green with envy. Be a shining example for your friends and family...we all need encouragement to do the right thing. God Bless and Good Luck
  2. wow...that was sooo good and so nice of you to respond such honesty and love. I too will be starting in August and scared to death. Mostly because I can't rememebr why I wanted to do this...
  3. Oh my....... The very first thing that I would do is to think about WHY you want to be a nurse....the touching?the listening?the helping?the rescue?..you get my point. Next I would explore every and any career that would fulfill that need WHILE you wait for Nurisng school. YOU WILL BE AMAZED at the relief and comfort this decsion will bring you. I myself wanted to "give back" but was in accounting. I kept changing jobs until I finally worked for a "meaningful" employer..I kept the books for a non profit. That wasn't quite "enough" so I started volunteering for hospice...now I was getting close! So I the became a CNA..even closer! I am now starting Nursing school in August. Each job was fulfilling becasue I had defined what it was I needed. Your route my be an EMT or a counselor or a volunteer .......... Bottom line..DON'T sit there being sick over this..life is way too short..do something NOW! xxooxx
  4. Hi there, I will begin my 2yr RN program the end of August. I am 57 yrs old so I want to make the most of my time! I am looking for advice as to best course of action for my future employment. I want to work in Oncology. Are prosepctive employers going to prefer that I have a BSN over a ASN or that I have worked/volunteered in the medical field while getting my license or perhaps that I have take every available course/seminar on oncology or perhaps something else? I knowthat there are no guarantees..but I would hate to say two years from now "Geeze,I really should have........" Thanks Tracey
  5. Gosh it was good to read these postings. I'm a brand new pre-nursing student who will be applying this coming Feb. Besides the tremendous anxiety over A&P and Chemistry and keeping a good GPA, the thought of being "found out" about my hearing loss is causing me added stress. Right now it's not too bad..high decible loss and tinitus in left ear. Now that I know there's "others" out there and special assistance I feel better!
  6. Hi there....am taking my first TEAS test tomorrow..I'll let ya know!
