  1. I see this all the time in other entries, but what does it exactly mean with the priority date being current? before you can file the 485/AOS even after the 140 has been approved? i just thought that with the 140 being approved, you can go ahead and file the 485 and 765/EAD? or do i really have to follow the dates posted in the visa bulletin? and one last question, does the visa bulletin apply to those who apply from the US? or only to those who apply from the foreign country? sorry for the many questions...but i really just want to clarify things... thanks!
  2. really? yeah that does sound like the worst... but what about for just a 15-minute infusion, in terms of the pressures? heard stuff about vein rupture and resultant hematoma...
  3. i've been observing peripheral iv iron infusions done for quite some time now, and i was just wondering - what is the worst case scenario when the tourniquet is left on a patient's arm and the infusion is administered? i saw this happen to one of the patients - he was getting iv iron for about 15 minutes but the nurse i was assisting had left the tourniquet on his arm! apparently, it was hid under the shirt sleeve.... towards the end of the infusion, i had observed that the patients' veins have become hard and tortuous (that's the word right?); but the patient was positive that he felt okay... this made me think, what would be the consequence for his veins? would they have ruptured and a hematoma would form? it's just sad, because the patient was a nice old man...
  4. quick question - so we would have to wait for our CGFNS ID# before mailing the requests for academic records and validation of licenses? or is it okay to "bypass" the ID#? i even thought at first that the ORDER NUMBER is the ID#!! thanks thanks!
  5. ok thanks! but what do you mean, AOS is currently not available? in what particular way? thanks
  6. I know theres been a lot of posts & questions about VSC already, but please bear with me on this one - i just want to clarify, why does it state in the CGFNS site / applicant handbook 2007 that VSC is required for those "internationally born healthcare workers (etc) that are applying for an occupational visa?" and everyone is saying that it is required by ALL foreign nurses? i am just confused... what if the foreign nurse is applying for immigrant status/permanent residence/green card? wouldn't that be a different thing? or is the VSC required nonetheless? on the other hand, is the VSC only needed by those coming directly from the foreign countries without initial visas (ie tourist visa) yet? or someone already here in the US can avoid VSC? i am really really confused as to WHO & WHAT SITUATION specifically is required to present a VSC, and also at what point in the entire process is it presented? before filing I-140? or where? please help! thank you very much! and happy thanksgiving! :-)
  7. Given that a candidate has recently passed the NCLEX-RN and IELTS, and is currently looking for possible employers offering sponsorship, (1)when is the best time to apply for VSC? Does it have to go first, before applying for a job, OR can the candidate be accepted by a sponsoring employer even without the VSC yet? (2) A common situation I have noticed with fellow foreign nursing graduates is that they take and PASS their local/home nursing boards, but choose NOT to register for a license and instead immediately leave the country to take the NCLEX-RN. so technically, they do not hold and have not held a permanent RN license in their country. Is this accepted by the VSC? That no verification can be done in the home country since there is no license at all? Thank you!
  8. What about if the situation is that someone took the local boards, PASSED, but DID NOT register for licensure? (for example, if he/she left immediately after taking the boards) Would that be acceptable by VSC? I mean, can it be denied that the person has a license at all? Because, technically, even if he/she passed the boards but didn't register, he/she doesn't have a permanent RN license in the local country.

hi! i'm trying to work on a good nursing resume, and so i've been looking through a lot of samples around the internet... basically it should include the qualifications summary, educational background, work experience, certifications/licensures, and other extra information... im just wondering, is it still advisable to put a little demographic data after the header (after the name, address, contact info)? such as birthdate, religion maybe? or others? or it's not necessary anymore? thanks!
  10. thanks also, lawrence... i didn't realize all this, because our decision-making has been terribly clouded by the sudden unexpected illness of my mom. everything has just been done haphazardly, i guess. but in terms of property in the phils, we might still have other answers to that. yes, we are trying to get a hold of a lawyer as of now.
  11. thanks caroladybelle and silverdragon for the replies... so, it isn't really advisable now for me to file for an extension of stay? especially with my mom's medical reason? because, yes im aware that it's actually two reasons - both to be here for my mom (though im not the primary caretaker), and to try to to process the visa screen. and i'm not desperate enough as to push my legal limits, which is why this is a really big problem. i CAN still go home, there would be other places for me to stay, but wouldn't my returning here be more difficult? as for my parents, they are actually the lucky ones because they've been petitioned by my uncle way back 1986 and if all goes according to plan for the immigration, they might be approved by next year. which is good because my mom really needs to stay here. but it's me now who's in the tight spot, because i only have the opportunity to work as a nurse which is turning out to be difficult, with all the time pressure and legal consequences. caroladybelle - the selling deal, is ultimately for us to generate finances that would help my mom. we still have the house, though, because it is not that easy to find buyers for such property. so hopefully that wouldn't be an issue in immigration...again, thanks for your reply to this matter :-) silverdragon - if texas wouldnt be able to grant me a license, would they at least keep my file until i get my requirements?
  12. thanks for all the posts... it seems the common advice is that i extend my stay. and actually, it's the only thing i CAN do, because the difference with my situation (compared to others), is that going home is hardly a choice. im not making this up, but really, our family is undergoing a terrible crisis right now, brought about by my mom's diagnosis. she is still not done with her consolidation chemotherapy (currently 3 out of 4 sessions done), and considering our family literally has nothing, financially - we are fully supported by my aunt and grandfather here in the states. my dad, however, went back home to the philippines to sell majority of our possessions, including our car, and eventually our house (in the process of being sold) to contribute to the financial burden of my mom's treatment - and that's why going home for me is truly the last resort. even my bed has been sold already! my relatives here are saying that we are going to do everything we can to keep us here, legally, and get a job asap. i know this is all kind of personal, and im saying this not to provoke pity or sympathy but to emphasize the fact that i really need the best possible, legal option to take in order to obtain a change of status - anything that is possible at all at this time. i do have several questions, mostly for suzanne: 1. suzanne - you said "the worst thing that you want to do is to ask for an extension for your visa. It draws attention to you and that is something that you do not want to do with immigration at all." - what if it's the only thing i can do? i mean, there really is a valid reason, too. if in case i do get approved - would i be able to process my visa screen then here? ive been told by one of my mom's nurses before that i have to extend my stay first before filing for my VSC so that a "record" may be avoided... is this true? 2. suzanne - i had just sent out the license endorsement papers both to california and texas state boards in the hope of being allowed that possibility, but yes i do have doubts - since i don't have the other requirements (CES/IELTS) for initial licensure by examination here in texas. im half expecting that texas would ask me for those requirements before issuing a license... but my question is, would they be keeping my file for a certain period of time until i can get the requirements done? i mean, im just concerned with the money that has been put out, since unfortunately it is non-refundable... thanks so much for your replies... i really appreicate it. in fact, this is the only source of information i have because i don't know a lot of people who has gone through with this situation. thanks!
  13. hi guys! i'm eila, i'm a new member and i registered because i really don't know what to do now! the situation is this - i graduated BSN from the philippines just last march 2007, took the california nclex at the beginning of this month and found out yesterday that i passed! but my big problem now is that i'm currently residing in texas and i need to find work here in texas...
