Nursing student 19 - How have you liked clinicals? That's what scares me! Also- are the locations mostly in the Baltimore area? I'm actually in Montgomery County so I'm afraid it's gonna be a hike. Good to hear you are enjoying HCC though. I took a lot of my prerequisites there and loved it. Good luck with your program!

I JUST received my acceptance letter!!! I think that the intense months are the non-normal semester times (May-August and December-January, then May-July following year). From what I understand, the 2 "normal" semesters (September-mid December and mid January-May) are done at a standard pace. I think I can handle it if it's done in this manner. I am STILL trying to get the BSN route of my head. I keep wondering if an ADN now will hold me back later. But I think the accelerated ADN is such a bargain and time-saver in the end. And I can go back for my BSN while I'm already an RN, with a hospital possibly footing the bill. Keep in touch - those of you in the accelerated program!

No, I guess it's not official that I'm in. I was told I'm basically at the end of the waitlist at #15. And when I asked if that meant I'd be in Fall 2009 it was basically a yes (unofficially of course). I did it this way because I had a baby in August 2008. In the end it doesn't matter because if I get into their accelerated program, that's what I will end up doing. You can attend a nursing info session, they were very helpful. And EVERYONE I've dealt with at HCC has been extremely nice and informative.

As an out of county applicant, I expected to be waitlisted until the following fall for their night/weekend program. I applied in in early 2008 and I was waitlisted, now waiting for fall 2009 entry. I think if you apply now, you are looking to get in Fall 2010 as out of county night/weekend. Good luck!

My background: I have a bachelor's in business. I am 30, married and mother of 2 babies. I have all the prerequisites finished for either a BSN at a University or an accelerated ADN at a Community College. The difference is BSN is $16,000 and it's 2 full years full time, whereas the accelerated ADN is $4,000 and it's a 13 month program. I would be paying out of pocket either way. The BSN would be a more leisurely pace - summers off etc so I could spend time with my children. The ADN would have me in school straight through winter and summers for those 13 months. My husband is also wanting to quit his job ASAP to go back to school and of course we have a mortgage and bills to consider while I'm in school. I'm definitely leaning toward the ADN. I think I want to continue on to get my MSN - is it setting me back too far to just get my ADN now? Will it be relatively easy to finish a BSN while I am working as a nurse? Would a hospital help pay for that? So many things to take into consideration, my head is spinning!

Weird - I am the same age, and was the exact same double major at UMD.. We probably know each other! I, too, am dreaming about going into nursing and looking into all of my options... I look forward to other's responses!
