Difficult Clinical Placement-Suggestions?
Looking for suggestions regarding my current clinical placement. Briefly: Assigned to work with MD in family practice for this placement. Since day one has made inappropriate comments to the patients, myself-all offensive. He is rude to me and dismissive-even in front of the patients. Refuses to teach, blows off my questions when I ask, does not allow hands on interactions with the patients, the list goes on and on... This is not isolated as his reputation precedes him as I have come to find out. I dread every day that I have clinicals. Would you: Deal with it for the semester at the expense of your learning? Request another site? Attempt to find my own? Your help is greatly appreciated! :imbar

BChapp3182, Thanks for the great suggestion. Do you have any books that you recommend that were particularly helpful?

Choosing a NP focus: FNP, ANP, ACNP
Iconoclast- You sound identical to me! I DO NOT want to take care of peds, but I also want a job after I graduate. I am starting FNP in the fall only to have the greatest marketability-but I seriously considered the ANP. Every NP that I have talked to has told me to pursue FNP, and some are going back for better job options. The FNP provides the broadest scope and I see them working in a variety of settings-not dealing with children. So as much as I dread the pediatrics portion of the FNP, I am going to go ahead for job security reasons. I feel that if I only have to deal with peds periodically at most-it won't be too bad.

Financial Aid Question-Is this Normal?
From what I understand (as the financial aid officer is not too helpful) I must submit my deposit and decide on a plan of study. After that is complete they will determine my financial aid award. Yet she implied that it would be several months before they decided awards. It just leaves me in a tough situation not knowing the financial details. Thanks for your response.

Financial Aid Question-Is this Normal?
I have a question regarding financial aid and would appreciate feedback. I have been accepted by a graduate program but it is very expensive. I spoke with financial aid and they said I would have to enroll before I would be considered for financial aid and informed of what I would receive-and would not find out till this summer. I don't understand how one can make a big decision as this without having any idea of finances. Is this normal and have other people experienced this? Thanks for your input.

Columbia University ETP 2008
I am seeing that many qualified candidates are being rejected for these programs. I have a question-Are the various direct entry programs (with no nursing experience) harder to get into than if you are already an RN and applying? Or are they equally competitive? Thanks for your feedback.
