Good Morning from Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. I am US (Texas) consultant working here since October 2006. Project in support of New US Embassy construction. Haiti continues to change....last year was still pretty dangerous here, security has improved much since first of this year, but one must still be very cautious. Roads are vey bad, electricity still huge problem, many areas have none at all, some only couple hours per day. Sanitation, waste water, still huge problem...but some NGO's working to clean some areas. There are many private, church sponsored, USAID or other government sponsored clinics and or hospital facilities all around the country, have one childrens hospital just few hundred yards west of my location that is church sponsored. People are generally good in Haiti, but strongly suggest any first time visitor do the research on the country and area you intend to visit, align yourself with your church group or some reliable entity that has experience in Haiti, knows the language (Creole) and knows how to recognize trouble and avoid same.
