Clinical Nurse specialist???
hello all, I am interested in going back to school for my MSN and was thinking about being a clinical nurse specialist. Does anyone know a little about this area of nursing. What is it like? How difficult is the program and the actual job? What are your responsibilities as a CNS in the hospital? I appreciate the help, thanks!!!:heartbeat

Any OR Nurses?
Hello - Im a new new nurse with only 3 months of experience on an ortho/neuro floor. I am hating my life right now. When I was in school, I knew that I eventually wanted to be an OR nurse, but Im trying to get some experience first. I started out on day shift, but it was too difficult, so my manager switched me to night shift. It has been a little better, but I still HATE it! I know that I am not cut out to be an floor nurse and I just want to be working in the OR. I talked to my manger about my issue and she was very understanding and told me she would see what she could do to help me out. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me the pros and cons of OR vs floor nursing, the hours, the workload etc. Is it less stressful than floor nusing or is it a different kind of stress? Right now I am taking 6-7 patients and its just way too crazy!!! This would really help me out a lot. I am pretty sure that this is what I want to do, but I need some advice! Thanks so much.

4 weeks with preceptor?!?!
Hey everyone - Im a new grad and just started working. The orientation with a preceptor is only 4 weeks long. Does this sound unusual to anyone? I was under the impression that my orientation would be a couple of months long. My nurse manager said that if more time was needed, you can have two extra weeks. After one week with my preceptor, I am feeling like I will definitely be needing the full 6 weeks. However I am scared that my nurse manager will be annoyed with me, and that it will just be more work for her and my preceptor. They said by the end of orientation I will have worked my way up to a full load of 6-7 patients (ortho/neuro floor). 4 weeks does not seem like enough time to be taking that many patients and feeling comfortable at the same time. Im scared that I will feel rushed and not be able to handle it. Any advice???

Any Florida Nurses???
Hey, I just recently passed my boards and moved to the florida panhandle and just got my first job offer. Its a great hospital and everyone who works there is awesome, but the salary is ridiculously low. I'm talking, really really low. I heard nurses in florida usually make around 40-50 k, but what I would be making wouldnt be anywhere near that. Dont get me wrong, Im more for the experience rather than the money (which is why I will probably end up taking the job) but I just dont know. Does anyone how much your salary usually goes up with each year you work?

Does the devil write this exam?
I just got home from my exam a few hours ago. When I left the building, I immediately started crying, and ran to my car so no one would see me. I thought to myself what the F*** ?!?! was that even the right test? I litereally guessed on every single question. Some of the stuff I gad never even heard of before. I started to panic half way throught the test because I knew I was approaching 75 and had done really bad so far. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears the whole time. I think the earplugs were making it worse. I found myself just staring at the questions like a retard. So im assuming that since I only had 75 questions, and guessed on all of them, I pretty much bombed. WOW, i dont even know what to do with myself. I feel sick to my stomach. Any advice on what I should do with myself for the next 48 hours?

Took NCLEX TODAY! Freaking out! Got 75 Q's, 6 select all no calc!
Hey - I just got home from my exam and I have been crying for the past hour. I think it was the most horrible experience I have ever had. I had 75 questions and I guessed on every single one!! I mean, I really had no clue, it was terrible. I had a lot of pharm and never even heard of some of drugs. A lot of priority, and select all questions. Im glad I spent so much time practicing med calc, because I didnt even get any of those questions! I took kaplan, bought 3 different books and I still feel like everything I was tested on wasnt anything that I studied. So, I am in the EXACT same shoes as you. This really sucks!!!
