What School to Choose?!?!?!!
Hi, I graduated and became a LPN this past summer. My advice would be to go straight for your RN if you want to get a hospital job. If you are interested in long term care, home health, or a doctor's office/clinic, LPN would probably work out for you. Look in the help ads and see what kind of jobs are in your area. I like the search indeed.com, it pulls from different sources. I'm in the Columbus area and there doesn't seem to be a lot of options for new grad LPN's or RN's... Good luck!

perfectionist or not cut out for nursing?
You will be amazed at how much more confident you will feel at the end of the program! What you're feeling is normal and it will get better each clinical experience you have! Good Luck

Should I even Bother??????
My school (Clark State Community College in OH) used a "program" called ati. (atitesting.com) at the end of the year, they had something you could join and they'd help you until you passed. I can't remember all of the details, but you may want to check that out. Of course it's not free...and you can get the books on ebay for a fraction of the price. Good Luck! I know a lot of people who didn't make it in our program because they were "bad test-takers", and they would make awesome nurses...Not that I'm assuming that you did poorly on your tests- just added that as an after-thought.

is there a state with no nursing shortage
I'm in Ohio, too. Graduated in June and still not working. I have experience as a Medical Assistant, so I've had some doctor's office/clinic interviews. A lot of the nursing home around here (I live near Columbus) like you to drop your resume off in person. I agree to make sure your resume looks good and dress up. Our hospitals don't want to hire LPN's (very rarely anyway). It's been frustrating! After reading some of the forums I don't understand this...seems to me the hospitals would want to save some $. I'm looking into transitioning already...Anyway, Good Luck! I like the site indeed.com- it pulls jobs from monster, hospitaljobs (something like that), etc- you just put your zip in and the radius.

Planned Parenthood wages
Thank you for your response! When the manager (I'm guessing she's a hiring manager??) called me, she asked a lot of questions about my opinions on abortion, teens getting treatment/bc/etc without parent consent, and wanted to know what I know about PP. She asked me what I was looking for in hours and pay...I wasn't expecting it (to be asked over the phone), so I just gave her a range of $17-$20. This seems to be the going rate for LPN's in Columbus OH- at least for LTC and some clinics- One of the big hospitals only offered me $14.67 to start...and I have over 10 years experience as a medical assistant. Anyway, I'm very excited about the interview- I have an interest in sex education- especially for teens. Thanks again!

Planned Parenthood wages
LPNGradNurse, How do you like working for PP? I have an interview on Monday (Ohio)...so it was pretty in depth? Any advise? Did they negotiate wage with you or did they pretty much say that's what it was? Thanks for any info you can give me! Davi, LPN
