What are my options after failing nursing program in CUNY School
I failed 3rd semester nursing class, 1st time received grade NC (no grade), repeated class and only made grade C where I was not eligible to continue to next semester. OK...I hope you get to read this. I cut and pasted your response above. Go back to your student handbook from the time you started the program...not an updayed handbook...the one that was in place when you started the program. Look in there to what grade the book said it requires to stay in the program. If the book says a grade of C or better, and this was the reason they let you go, then legally they have broken a binding contract with you...they have to let you back in. I have never heard a school taht requiires a B or better, so i ma thinking that it says C or better like most handbooks do. In the meantime...what was the class? What are your other grades like? Is this a program that fits your learning style and needs? Were your other grades better?

Adults to Peds
yes, I have advice.....get the AACN book entitles "Core Curriculum for Pediatric ICU" and take it to work with you daily, to use as a reference. Open yourself to new experiences, and above all, don't be afraid. Use your best resources that you have: your fellow RN's! We think in kg!! We estimate kids weights in the grocery stores, we check out their coughs at church, and look at those veins and wonder if they are a good stick! Two more things: oxygen is your favorite "drug", for desats/brady's/over sedation etc.............but be careful using it with your heart babies.....know your heart defects. Also as you walk the unit, take some time to look at their weights and practice the emergency drug calculations in your head, until you are standing in church, estimating weights and epi/atropine doses! Think in kg all the time!!

Yes, the flush has heparin.

stringe size for arterial lines
We have lost a few arterial lines lately, and are looking at our technique as a possible cause. What size syringes do you use for aspirating from alines? Do you think the size matters? We do not use the drip method, and we do return the first aspirate/waste.

MD orders Viagra for pulmonary hypertension?!
The drug would do this by actually dilating the blood vessels in the heart.... taking care of potentially life-threatening pulmonary hypertension. It dilates the blood vessels leading to the lungs.

signature/documentation
We use charting in our ICU, where we have a flow sheet where we document in the corner, our initials, printed name and signature. Our narrative is done on a separate paper....we have different view points on the following: Does each entry have to have a full signature, with credentials, or can we sign with initials and credentials?

IV Infiltration
Gotta go with the Q1hr...D10 and higher should only be given via a central line, or you are risking a severe infiltrate...we have used wydase also....if real bad...since it is too late for wydase...how about silvadene.

S/S of IV Infiltration
redness, swelling, does the tape look tighter than it did previously...does it feel warm...does the patient c/o burning at the site? Are your meds working? If not evaluate to be sure they are not going in the skin.
