  1. It seems to me you probably already know the answer to your question. Dont change your values based on what you observe others doing. I know what you are saying is true, I have seen it myself, more often than I care to think about. Repeat the following statement in your mind whenever you feel like cutting corners. "Own your practice." You will continue to see this for the rest of your nursing career, sometimes to a lesser and sometimes to a greater degree. You can ONLY control your actions, so focus on being the best nurse, Do your assesments every time!!!!!!
  2. I just finished by first year as a new grad in a very busy ED. I had the same problem at first. We had a dedicated ED pharmacist who I used a lot as a resource. She directed me to a manual that was available, which was the IV guidlines book. It listed all IV meds, and included info such as whether or not it was to be diluted and if so with what. It also had push rates and/or admistration time frames if it was IVPB. It also had a very brief description of the major side effects. I used this book pretty much daily for awhile. I also used Micromedix alot, not sure if you have access to it or not. They have a great section where you can check compatability very easily. I used this site alot for that. I also made my self a little cheat sheet that I kept on my badge, that had the meds I gave most of all, and included the administration rate, and whether or not it should be diluted. One thing I learned right away was not to waste my time asking other nurses. I got a different answer from everybody. In the end I needed to know the right way, not just everybody elses idea of the right way, so I figured it out my self. Hope this helps and good luck.
  3. In your heart you know the answer to your question. Of course this is wrong, not only unsafe, but just plain wrong. Go to whoever you need to go to, and get a new preceptor. Please let me know how it all works out. I started out as a new grad in the ER one year ago, and I start an ICU training program in 2 weeks. If this was me, Hope it wont be, I would definately talk to whoever I needed to. Good luck and keep us posted.
  4. ok, so my girlfriend from school, took the NCLEX in Cali on 6/3. she got sick of waiting for results, nothing on the Lic Verification for her, so she called (not saying i recommend it), but she called and told her that her license was mailed out this week. Her name still doesnt come up on the verification. Weird, huh. Anyone experience this????
  5. Whooooooohoooooo. congrats, you passed. Im so happy for you, your news has given me faith. How did you find out, please, please tell me!!! theresa
  6. i feel sick with worry too. I consider myself a strong nurse, I have been an LVN for 13 years, I work in a high acuity urgent care now, and am suppossed to start in the ED on 6/7. To think that its possible that I failed the NCLEX is just insane. How would I face my coworkers and my family. I had to pass, WE had to pass. Please keep in touch and let me know as soon as you get your results, and I will do the same. Theresa:coollook:
  7. I feel your pain. I took the NCLEX friday 6/27 in cali. I had 22 SATA questions. I had several med questions on meds I am not familiar with. I had lots of infection control questions, and questions on who should the nurse call first. Only one calculation questions and it was easy, figuring gtt/min. I stopped at 75 questions so I am either totally a dumb ass or I did great. The pain of waiting is awful. I live in cali, so no quick results for me. It helps reading everybodys feedback, makes me feel like I am not alone in all this. I got great grades in school, did the ATI predictor, 2 of them, and both said I would have a 99% chance of passing on the first try. I also did tons of practice test, but I still walked out of there thinking that I totally bombed that. I start my new grad job on July7th, I am so scared I wont pass. I am trying to stay positive. I have been diverting my attention to other things, but its hard to be totally present in things, when your mind and heart is dying to know the results. I feel your pain about the SATA questions, it was like somebody wanted me to fail. My virtual ati instructor said that there is a good chance that some or most of the freebies may have been the SATA questions, I sure hope so. Good luck to you, I bet you and I both passed. GOD help us!!!:zzzzz:imbar
  8. How did you find out your test result so fast??? I thought it would take several weeks to get notice by mail?? Just took mine yesterday in Cali, very anxious to find out results!!
  9. Help, Help, Help. I just started my LVN-RN transition program a few weeks ago. I have been in school for 11 years, and I never actually did care plans in my real world experiences of being an LVN. I am doing a "Concept Map." Heres the scenario. A 60 y.o. female with a hx of ASHD and HTN. Borught to the ED by ambulance. She is c/o nausea, anorexia, blurred vision. She is alert and orientated; although her daughter states that she has had periods of confusion over the last several days. The client explains that she is currently under her MD's care for episodes of atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter that began about 1 week ago. Home meds include: Digoxin 0.125 mg daily, as well as Quinidine Sulfarte and Catapress. The cardiac monitor reveals atrila fibrillation with a ventricular rate of 180 bpm. I need 3 nursing dx with R/T and AEB. I have come up with Decreased Cardiac output, r/t altered rate and rhythm, AEB atrial dysrythmia and ventricular rate of 180 bpm. Is this written correctly, and what else can I use. Please help, and thanks in advance
