My interview went well! And Yes!! I got the position in the PACU!

Hello PACU RNs',? I have an upcoming interview for a FT PACU RN dayshift position at a level 1 trauma center.... I am a RN, BSN nurse with 8 years of Cardiac Step-down Unit experience... WE receive patients from CT surgery: Mitral Valves, Aortic Valves, TAVRs, EP, Cath lab and the overflow from the ED... I just want to transition to the PACU were I can see a variety of surgical procedures and take care of those patients... I did shadow a month ago and it was great.... I saw the open position and applied in house... Can anyone give me any idea on what type of questions the team would ask me??? I really want to be prepared for the interview....Thank you!!?

I wish we had a library at work... I got the CDs to listen and purchase the ACE the PCCN Review by Nicole K... I'm going to do lots of questions and read the rationales until I take the test...

Hello Everyone, I have worked in Cardiology close to 4years and want to obtain my PCCN cert... My job doesn't have a course/bootcamp available.... They soon will... I don't want to wait and want to seek a class, etc on my own.... Any advice on how to approach this?? also any additional resources like purchasing a review book, CD, videos etc??? Im serious and want to start and get this done.... Please share your thoughts.........

Thank you very much...... I have reached out to the PACU Manager..... Very receptive and she will allow me to shadow next month... I am very excited about it!!!!! The OR Manager is on Vacation and will be back in June... I will reach out to her once she returns.... But; I am very excited about shadowing in the PACU in June!!!! I can't waití ½í¸Ší ½í¸Š

Thank you for your response.... Do you think it would be beneficial if I sign up for the critical care course offered by my hospital..... I was looking at one of the requirements for PACU....... I know for the OR Program they talk about Anesthesia and Malignant Hyperthermia as part of the OR Program....

or should I go the OR and become an OR Nurse and then transition later to PACU???? I would appreciate any advice that Anyone has to give me!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone, I have been a Cardiac RN at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Philadelphia for a total of 4 years now. the last two years working with MVR, AVR, TAVR, CABGS/open heart surgery patients. They come to my Progressive Cardiac Care Unit b/t one or two days after surgery depending on there hemodynamic stability from HVICU......I absolutely LOVE it. I Love surgical patients and taking care of them.... I want more in my career and I am willing to go after my passion which is EVERYTHING SURGERY related. I was thinking about the OR; BUT decided that PACU nursing may be the right fit for me...... Especially since I will have the opportunity to utilize my assessment skills, a lot... I am quick on my feet, and love the fast paced, crazy environment...... I know AIRWAY/RESPIRATORY, PAIN, etc... are huge to control after surgery..... And I NEED a Challenge....... My Hospital here in Philly offers a Critical Care Course..... as I was looking at the Requirements' to enter into PACU.... My question and maybe some advice on what I can do to better prepare myself for the PACU like reading materials, CDs', online training modules, ANYTHING..... Because when I apply, I want everything to be in order......I am open to any suggestions or tips on how I should proceed???? Thank you:)

Hello Everyone I have been a Cardiology RN for over 2yrs and was given an opportunity to observe an TAVR and MVR in the OR....it was an amazing experience to be up close and watch the team perform this important surgery. I currently work at a huge medical center in the tri-state area that is constantly expanding.... I had the chance to attend a Periop Function which I learned so much and spoke with a few nurses who liked my enthusiasm for the profession and encourage me to sign up for the next Periop Class.... which I am definitely going to do...... I want to ask if anyone knows of a good surgical instrument book with a CD or even an App on the go.. or both..... that will give me a basic idea and familiarize myself with the surgical instruments and what the uses are for????? I would appreciate it very much.... my hospital will probably start another class late summer or early fall.... so I want to be proactive in my learning process.....

I was working at a SNF for for 3 yrs full time which I downgraded to per diem status... Since I got a job at an acute care hospital full time.. I'm still at the hospital for over a year now.... My question... For my resume do I put full time with dates?? And add per diem with dates for the SNF... Any suggestions is much appreciated....

I agree with the previous post.. Grrr8 advice Kipahni..... I just interviewed with a major hospital in the Pennsylvania area due to similar circumstances at my current place... Support is very important along with continuing opportunities for professional growth and development. Go 4 it!!!! and Best of Luck in your furture endeavors. :)

Im in this situation now... I understand that it gets frustrating at times... I have been with my facility sub acute setting for over a yr.. I have been applying to every hosp in Philly area.. I just hope I will get something real soon...

It's so hard for nurses to get a job... But I know that we all will fine one in a hospital soon..
