  1. Do you like the NICU itself? Do you think that once you are off orientation you may come to like the unit well enough to stick out your contract? I agree with the other poster that I would definitely line up other work before you leave this job. I would probably try to stick it out myself, but if you hate the work in addition to hating the orientation you have been given, you have to do what is best for your mental health too! Good luck. I hope a PP job comes your way soon! Hang in there and keep us posted.
  2. I was wondering if anyone out there has gone through or knows of someone who has gone thru the perioperative nursing practicum at UMC. This is offered as a 3 week course to nursing students in their last semester of nursing school. I know that it is a selection process that includes an interview and that if chosen, you complete the program in 3 weeks of 6:30 to 15:00 shifts. Has anyone been hired as an OR nurse after completing this program. How is it? Is it a 40 hour work week? 36 hours? How long is the orientation/precepting once you are hired? Any information is helpful. Thanks
