Where do we meet?

Yes. I was called out of the blue last week. I was number 2 on the wait list. I went to the office the same day. So did alt. #1.

Thanks so much for all of the words of encouragement. I am going to get on the "alternate admissions list" since I am committed and determined to be a nurse and attend LSUHSC! My intention was to inform CARE X applicants that letters were on the way soon, not to make you nervous with my status. Honestly, after thinking over my interview, (as I've mentioned before) i felt that I could have prefaced my answers with more information, or more of an explanation. So, although the interview was fun and flew by, maybe I thought I did great but could have done better. The students and faculty did have a lot of applicants to interview on the first day. ( To answer some questions, I as told that "wait list numbers" are not given out. I suppose this will be reviewed when the time comes. I live in New Orleans, Lakeview area, for those wanting to know when to expect their letter.) Good luck to everyone. I know that most of you who are now nervous due to my post will get your congratulations letter sooner than later, and, quite possibly, I will see you all in August!

The letter does not give the number for alternates. I called student services and will let you know if I find out anything.

There are two threads going on for CARE X. I posted on the other one regarding the letter I received today. I am on the alternate list. Good luck to all who make it and can plan ASAP!

news flash: i got my letter today. am i the first? the letter, in a regular envelope, had a one page note inside which read "that due to the number of applicants that can be admitted to the care program at this time an alternate admissions list has been developed. you have been placed on this list for fall 2010," etc.... if anyone is curious, this is a repeat application and my gpa is a 3.5. i thought i did really well on my interview. i did have two unexpected questions that i wasn't sure i answered well due to the sheer surprise of the questions. one was "what do you think has been your greatest accomplishment in life?" well, at the age of 48, that's pretty hard to narrow down as i've had quite a few. the most tricky question was "name a time in your life when you have been treated as a minority culturally, politically, or socially and explain how you overcame it. that one blew me away as i did not see how it applied to an accelerated nursing program. it came out of left field. the male student looked at my confused face and basically said to his interviewing partner that maybe the question had to be reworded, so i did it for them. in addition, i was interviewed by a ph.d. , who did not teach in the program and two students. i thought at the time of the interview that if i were a serious candidate that i would have been interviewed by someone who taught in the care program. good luck to all of those anxiously waiting for letters. if you have any input, thoughts, or analysis to my observations it is welcome as i am trying to decide whether to pursue this program as an alternate. thanks and good luck!

I walked out thinking: Words were coming out of my mouth, but I should have prefaced those words with this or that to make it clear to them what I was saying. Was I just babbling? Do I even remember what I really said? It is a surreal experience for sure because we all obviously really want to be there and it means so much. Otherwise, we wouldn't be nervous. So, don't feet alone. If you weren't nervous, something would be wrong! Did you interview with two students and one instructor?

I have the 10:30 spot tomorrow. I am wearing a dress, instead of a suit. I hope to see some of you and meet you. 6th floor, right? And, to answer your questions, yes, I am nervous - but in a good way. Where are you all going to park? Is anyone meeting up before the interviews begin? if so, where? For some reason, emails to this thread had stopped until yesterday. I am so glad to be reconnected!

As far as I know, they called alphabetically, so I'm at 10:30. What are you wearing?:)

cbkrn2b2011 How are you? Have not heard a peep. Wanted you to know that I have an interview this Saturday. All of the interviews are being conducted in one day. Have you heard anything about the interview process this year? What do people typically wear - suits? Thanks. Tigerlover.

ChanelCinq, I believe things are different this year because there is a grading rubic for gpa, interview, goal statement, etc. instead of selecting candidates by gpa only. I know the goal statement is worth 20%. I'm not sure about the others. They are still reviewing applications as of today, and interview invites will be sent by mail or a phone call. Some of the medical team are volunteering in Haiti - don't know if this has anything to do with the CARE program, though. I suppose we can't go by last year's schedule. P.S. FYI - Not sure if this was your post about having two prereqs to complete, but all must be finished at the time the application is turned in.

Hi BundokSaint. Half of the battle is getting that application package in on time!! Good for you. Hopefully, you will have smooth sailing, get an interview and get accepted for the fall. I wasn't so lucky the first time. FYI, my meeting with the Director was most helpful. She went over ALL of my transcripts pulling courses with the highest grades, and made suggestions on which classes to retake. Now, with a higher GPA I'm applying again. BTW, I'm glad you wrote. Class 2009 had a strong thread going; I was wondering where everyone was this year.

cpkrn2b2011, once again, thanks for your time and opinion. Rigorous training is necessary in the medical field, and nursing schools all over the country are swamped with applicants. It is good to hear that you have quality faculty and be prepared for nursing with the accelerated BSN. I hope all went well on the exam.

No, not sorry at all. I really appreciate hearing your story, AND I can't believe it. Maybe I should have focused on Charity: I would be graduating this year. I have a good friend who went to Charity and had a semi-quality life while attending. She had a great experience in a supportive atmosphere. Did the instructors treat you as a mature person? As a professional? I am amazed at the hours you kept, as I am close to your age. More amazing is the 4.0. Everything I read says that no one makes a 4.0 in the CARE program. Looking forward to your next post.

Hello Californians. I am writing from New Orleans. We have good nursing programs here, but they are competitive also. There is only one accelerated BSN that is 18months. I am applying to the accelerated BSN for the fall semester. Last year, I noticed Mount St. Mary's College and since I attended Catholic University had all of the religions and philosophy requiremnts. THEN, I noticed the tuition for the one year program at Mt. St. Mary - $50,000. That's an expensive B.S.N! How do you all deal with such high tuition? What is the average GPA accepted here and at Sam Merrit? Good luck to you all!

beejaycee, You seem to have great communication skills and business acumen by the questions you posed prior to the program. Would you mind sharing your opinion of this program? Are you still going to pursue nursing? I attended LSUHSC when it was a 2 year accelerated A.D. program. I left after one year due to financial reasons after changing my major and schools a few times before getting to LSU. I went into sales, and did really well monetarily. Now, I'm back. I needed two classes and applied in '08, but didn't realize how competitive grades had become. High school education has changed a great deal for the better and has given the younger students an edge. Last year I sold my house after showing it 100 times, and the buyer asked me to move in one week, and I missed some new paperwork requirements. So, I retook a few more prereqs and here I am. With all of this time I have invested, I would really appreciate knowing why you left and what you think of the program. Thanks beejaycee. I'm sure you do miss your friends after going through such intensity with them. Thanks for replying to my post.

Hi beejaycee I am applying to CARE again this year. I read all of your posts and am wondering if you have any words of wisdom now that you all are in full accelerated mode. Also, have you heard what the baseline GPA accepted for your class was? thanks.

I read all of 2009 posts. I feel like I know all of you! Can you tell me if anyone was accepted with a 3.5? The first time I applied they went by GPA only - all 3.7 and above. I'm reading that it is different now with the interviews. Thanks. P.S. How many people are left in YOUR class? How is it going?
