I'm looking for an app that tells us what to START certain drips at. At the last hospital I worked at the doctor would always write "start dopamine at __". Here they just write Dopamine per protocol but this place has not been able to show me what "that" protocol is. Yes, I know there are some problems. At my last job there was a form on the computer that had typical gtt start rates as well as max doses. I am not looking for a "computing the rate" type of app. I just want to know typical/average start rates and max infusion rates. Does anyone know of this kind of app for my iphone?

You need to have your own standard to compare different travel companies because they never have all the same "wages". What I do when I am looking for a job is tell them I want to know what the most I can make in one month is if I were to forgo all benefits. In other words, say I were going to go on assignment and I did not need anything. No housing, no car, no insurance, no bonuses etc. What would my gross monthly income be? That way I can compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. If they say somewhere around $8000/mo for a 48 hr/wk assignment I know it is pretty good.

I did it. I traveled with my husband and our 3 children for 2 years. He was a stay at home dad. I worked 5 shifts per wk. We did it for financial reasons and we made a lot of money. BUT it was not fun. It was very hard, but it was worth it. We got all our bills paid off and now we live in the home of our dreams. One word of caution- keep in mind if you sell your house you will loose your "tax home". You will not be eligible for some of the "tax free money" agencies try to lure you in with because you will not be supporting another residence other than where you already reside. Good luck!

I was a traveler for 2 years. When comparing the pay of various companies you need to compare apples to apples, oranges to oranges. My advise to you, and what I always did, was ask the company what the MAXIMUM pay is. What this means is, what will you get GROSS PER MONTH for forgoing everything? (no housing, no insurance, no car, etc.) A high paying agency will tell you about $7000.00 per month for a 48 hr work week. I did it this way because the companies vary so much on all the other variables such as housing, overtime, bonuses, etc. This was the only way I could compare them all evenly. You'll find that California and a few places back east are the highest paying. Mountain states tend to be the lowest. I'd say for Seattle depending on how desperate they are, you could probably get $7000 per month out of them only because the housing might be pretty expensive. Do research on the area and come up with a number in your head. Tell them this is what you want and if they don't give you that you will go somewhere else!

When I was in nursing school, we learned how to do wet to dry dressing changes and were told they absolutely must be done with sterile gloves. I did this, and I was very good about it even though I knew other nurses weren't. Then after about 3 years of nursing I went on an assignment to Bakersfield, Ca. The wound/ostomy nurse there changed the wet to dry dressing on one of my patients and did not use sterile gloves. When I questioned her about this she replied with, "are you kidding? You DO NOT need to wear sterile gloves for this dressing change. There is no evidence that this needs to be done. I have attended many conferences and have been in this line of work for 25 years!" I listened to what she said and believed it. After all, I often see the physicians that actually DID THE SURGERY come to the unit to change a dressing and not don sterile gloves. Please help! I am a nurse who LOVES to do things the right way, and I just don't know what to do!
