ANCC Board Certification
I am also going to take the ANCC MedSurg test around first of Nov. I am freaked out. I have worked on a med surg floor for the last 10 years but I have been "the experienced" one for so long, I have not been around people to learn from. Plus the floor I work on is a rural small hospital, so we transfer out most of the more complex stuff that I am reading about in the review books. Some of the questions is more appropriate for our ICU. So far I have read a review book and took the test in the back (bombed it) and so I just paid for the ANCC review test questions. I would appreciate any ideas, help or support to!!!!!

Florida RN license by endorsement
Is there any testing required when transfering an RN license to Florida? I have only worked in one state and have never done the process of moving my license.

Good nursing shoes
New Balance 801's is what all our night shift loves to wear. So comfortable! Hard to find though.

A Question about Pessaries
ooooooo....bad memories. I had a Home Health pt once (90+) that had a pessary and we had to remove and clean it 2x week!! I was a blue cube with concave sides and no string anywhere in site! You had to "go after it" and "return it" just the same way and boy can I say something about the "discharge" that you encounter in this process will make your eyes water! That is an all to clear memory......................................

floating
In our small hospital, usually the OB nurses do all the floating. They need them in house so if they need to go back to their unit they can do so quickly and then they call back in someone on call (if someone was low censed). ER needs their 2 people and ICU needs their 2 people. Med Surg nurses never float, because we are the ones that need the help always. Rarely they ask one of us to come to ER temporarly (to lend a warm body only) and none of know where anything is! The OB nurse's usually hate to float over to us to!

Pyxis systems ???
We use Pyxis for all pts. We have one main thing with x2 towers for refrigerated things. Each med nurse (x2) has 11-13 pts apiece. They just go to it with each MAR and pull all of that pts meds for the specific time and go give them, etc, etc. We have talk of getting another tower for all and any supplies. The only thing we could get to without going through Pyxis will be linen! I'm so used to using it, that it's no big deal.

Assigning patients to rooms on Med/Surg Floor?
We just put them in whatever is available/open. We had a weird layout to our small hospital anyway.......circle pod things.
