Hey The nurses of Indiana really need to stick together, don't you think??? I know I could use some support. . . . . . I am new to Indiana but the stress of being a nurse is anywhere!!!!! I just would love to get together and talk more on this board!!!!!! So anyone interested. . .lets chat!!!! I have been a nurse 3 years, I have mainly worked in med/surg. . .but want to specialize in an area. . .just not sure what yet. . . . . It would definately be the nurse/patient ratio. It needs to be lowered, but the bottom line is $$. Also more respect for the doctors.

I want to work mother baby so bad I can't stand it, but anywhere I apply they only have night opening. I can't do nights!!! I have a 1 year old. So daycare arrangements would be a nightmare. . . . . So does that mean I should just give up on that dept???????? It is pretty discourgeing. . . any advise would be greatly appreicated

Looking for any info on step down units. . . .I know there are probably several types. . .med/surg, cardic. What is the average nurse to patient ratio? Is is better than floor med/surg nursing?

Do you think ICU nursing is as STRESSFUL (crazy, hectic, etc) as med/surg floor nursing? I realize ICU nursing takes a great deal of knowledge and the patients are more critical, . . . .I need an opinion on med/surg patient ratio of 8 patient to 1 nurse as opposed to 2 or 3 patients to a nurse. What does it really take to be an ICU (MICU, SICU) nurse?
