1. how many questions did you take on nclex? 215 because i ran out of time. took the full 6 hours. 2. what study materials did you use? did you take a test review course? saunders comprehensive 3rd edition, kaplan strategy book, school notes, andersen review course (in boston, ma). tried the ncsbn online review, but they currently redesigned their interface, which is not fully operational yet. so i would either wait until they get everything working or would try something else, maybe kaplan or drexel. 3. did your son offer any testing (eri, ati, hesi)? school offered the optional ati, but i didn't sign up for it. 4. how long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? it's been one day post nclex and i'm waiting anxiously for the results. i hear that pennsylvania's bon is pretty good about posting up results quickly on their website, ranging from 2-4 days after the exam. 5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? i thought it would never end. i kept hoping that it would shut off, but it kept going and going and going, like the energizer bunny. it only ended because i took the full 6 hours. i was so drained afterwards. i couldn't believe the type of questions that had on there. the wording of the questions are so bad, that at times it doesn't even make sense. i had tons of priority questions, 1 one med. calculation, 5-7 select all that apply questions, 10-20 questions on meds, questions about the legal aspects of nursing, questions about procedures, client positioning questions, questions about equipment, therapeutic communication questions, etc. the questions i got came from every aspect of nursing. so you really need to study the basics of nursing, know your meds (which is impossible), positioning, procedures, etc. because you never know what type of questions you'll get. i was mad that at least 50% of the diseases states i studied for was not even on there. maybe it was in the last 50 questions that i didn't get to answer. i don't know. according to the nclex pamphlet (which i received after finishing the exam), it states that if people run out of time, "...the candidate will pass if their ability estimate has remained abouve the passing standard for the last 60 items. the candidate will fail if their ability estimate was below the passing standard for any of the last 60 items. this does not mean that you have to answer 60 items correctly." so hopefully i did well enough on questions 155-215 to pass. i've been praying pretty hard lately and sure hope my prayer gets answered. peace. 6. was this your first attempt at nclex? first time. hoping its the last time. found 2 days after the exam on the pennsylvania license verification website that i passed. i'm officially a rn. thank god.
